    Chequered Skipper reintro - England

As I understand it Purple Moor-grass is the main food plant in Scotland but False Brome was used in England.

    Benfleet: lost camera equipment

Prior to a visit to the dragonfly site on Sunday we were shown photographs of the Southern Migrant Hawkers by someone in the station car park who happened to mention that he had lost a piece of camera equipment. It seems likely that we may have found it and would be happy to return it to the...

    2017 UK orchids

I've had the same response to my e-mailed request for information from Kenfig re. Fen Orchids - nothing. Disappointing for such an important site and, unfortunately, enough to dissuade me from making the long journey to South Wales.

    2016 UK Orchids

Re Bonny Wood; just up the road from me and know it well. Common Twayblade yes, Lesser Twayblade would be good but highly unlikely. 'Flora of Suffolk' shows CT widely distributed and has no mention of LT. Similarly, 'The Orchids of Suffolk', 1991, by Martin Sanford makes no mention of LT. A...

Can anyone help me with Hebridean Marsh Orchid? I've searched the Lingay/Clachan area but without success, and with only one day left on N. Uist I'm running out of time. Any help very gratefully received. Thank you. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Water Shrew - The Lodge

Thanks for the update. I've tried Jack's Pond but although it's only small, I find that the amount of vegetation makes monitoring the whole pond difficult.

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

I think that they have Zebra Longwing in the butterfly house at Banham Zoo, which could explain the Garboldisham sighting.

    UK dragonflies and damselflies, 2014

I think most people park near Markway Bridge on the A35 (c. SU250038) and go over a stile to walk east along the Ober. (I walk from Puttles Bridge to make a day of it). I was in the area a couple of days ago but couldn't see an easy way of walking along the Ober from Puttles Bridge. Any...

    Suffolk Birding

Watched the Montagu's Harrier for a long while, yesterday afternoon, close to the river wall just up from Felixstowe Ferry. hard to believe that it was just me and my mate there. Even after ringing in the news no one else appeared. An interesting and obliging bird'. 'Channel' type Wagtail also...

    Damselflies in Suffolk

Unfortunately, to be sure of both, you will probably need to visit the River Stour in the extreme south and the Waveney in the north. White-legged on the Stour between Stratford St. Mary and Bures: I have found Bures Mill to be reliable in the past. Variable are present at Minsmere and at sites...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Several probable Purple Hairstreaks nectaring on the oaks to the south of Costessey cemetery on Longwater Lane. I was visiting on family business and didn't have binoculars with me so I can't be 100% certain but I would be interested to know if this is a known site. Thanks.

    2013 UK orchids

Apologies all round for the inaccurate information in post 65. I did a quick check of the site today and contrary to what I remember, the small pit is also fenced. The plants would be visible from here but not in ultra close up.

    2013 UK orchids

Last year there were a reasonable number of plants growing outside of the fence in a small, shallow pit which appeared to have been dug for this purpose. Presumably this is accessible at all times.

Thanks for that - saved us making a long journey for nothing. Similar situation at the best Suffolk site.
