Looking for Birding Buddies Dec 12 - Jan 13

Hello all! Myself and another young birder will be backpacking through Colombia from December 17th to January 4th. We would absolutely love to have anyone join in with us, as this will be a whirlwind tour! While we are not planning to rent a car, if fellow travelers have, we will be more...

Thanks for all your help! I have some decisions to make :)

    Canon Rebel T3i

Thank you all! So I am leaning towards the Cannon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 because it is substantially smaller than ones that go up to 500 mm. Unfortunately, carrying binoculars and a scope around means I'd like to still be *relatively* compact. Do you think this will be suitable for my needs? And...

    Thanks weekend birder :)

    Canon Rebel T3i

In terms of budget, I would like to keep it under $1000, preferably around 600-700$. I'm not even sure what min/max length is... But in terms of subject I would like to photograph birds almost exclusively with it. I have a good all purpose lens, so I don't mind having a lens specific for only...

    Canon Rebel T3i

I agree! I love how compact it is, but still able to take great photos! I just have to work on the quality of the photographer and not of the equipment at this point ;)

    Looking for Birding Companions

Thank you so much Niels! I should also note that if you plan on just a visit to the islands, I'd love to just go out with some tourists as well :)

    Canon Rebel T3i

I know I don't have the best equipment, but it doesn't stop me from trying! I'd like to buy a good telephoto lens, but I have no idea where to even start. I'm very new to the world of photography, and while I don't expect to take expert shots ever, I'd really like to be able to take nicer...

    Looking for Birding Companions

Hello all! I will be moving to Trinidad, Port of Spain to be more specific, next week! I will be there for at least 10 months, possibly longer. It would be wonderful if I could have some companions while I try to find all the beautiful species T & T has to offer. If interested, send me a...

    My new blog

I thought it would be interesting to start up a new blog telling the tales of our crazy birding experiences. If anyone would like to contribute, I'd love to post other peoples work! http://thestarvingbirder.blogspot.ca/

    Birding Hotspots of Texas

I will be based in Bracketville, working primarily out of Kickapoo Caverns, but I will be going to the other state parks in this area. I'm still working out how to edit the pages, but I am working on this!

Proposed new wind farm directly on a migration route

I agree. I'm not sure what the next step should be to stop this, but once I figure it out, I'll let everyone else know what they can do to try to stop this from being built!

    Young Birder

Okay, I have been on here before, but not for a while! So I will re-introduce myself! Name's Nicole and I am a 22 year old Canadian, but so far this year I have spent 5 days in Canada :P First two months I spent in Ecuador and last two months I have been in Brackettville Texas, where I will be...

Proposed new wind farm directly on a migration route

I hope to call more attention to this proposed wind turbine project, as it has the potential to harm many of our birdy friend, including our endangered Whip-poor-will. http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2011/05/12/ontario-green-endangered.html?sms_ss=facebook&at_xt=4dcdac1f4bea724f%2C0...

    Rose-Breasted Grosbeak!

That's great! I'm from the Brampton area, and I still have yet to see a Rose-breasted in Canada! Hopefully doing a fall at Long Point will change that :)

    Happy International Migratory Bird Day!

I'm not sure if this is celebrated across the pond, but here in the Americas we are celebrating the birds today! Check out the website: http://www.birdday.org/ and I have just wrote a blog about it at http://theadventuresofabirdnerd.blogspot.com/ I plan on heading out and seeing what birds are...

    Volunteering

Thats awful! I was always told "You don't get into wildlife biology if you want to make money" and I have lived by that sentiment. I would rather the money go to the birds, and I just get paid enough to live happily, because hey, my job is pretty awesome! Hearing this, however, really angers me...
