Thanks, this is indeed useful! But the bird pictured shows a very rounded head and a light grey mantle, which doesn't favour YLG, does it?

    Odd-looking Herring Gull ? (W France)

This bird has been photographed (not by me) on Oct 23rd on Ile de Sein, France. These are the only pictures, no pictures in flight. What do you think about this very dark-marked head individual ? I've seen many pictures of HG with dark markings, but not as dark as this one. Here's what I've...

This bird raises questions about its ID. It was seen today, and never called. The photos have only been cropped, no other modification. 3 taken under sun, 3 in the shadow of the bush. Thank you for your thoughts.

Bunting ID (W France, january 5th)

Hi, Someone posted this picture of a Bunting, asking for confirmation about a possible Rustic Bunting, mainly because of the white spot behind the eye, and the small wing bar on lesser coverts. https://www.faune-anjou.org/index.php?m_id=54&mid=121350 It has been taken near Angers on early...

    Raptor in French Alps

Hi, I would like a confirmation this is a Short-toed Eagle? I've seen it on July 27th at alt. ~2500m near Valfréjus, Savoie I had a little doubt with Booted Eagle, as the wings appear not so long. Thank you

    Egrets - French Guyana

I've just looked at very old photos from French Guyana (that I've taken on july 2001). Is it possible to ID these birds? The one in flight must be Tricolored Heron ; so as the dark one? What about the white Egret? Snowy Egret? eBird indicates there are also Little Egrets there, but it seems...

Waders in flight - South France

Is it possible to safely ID this flock of waders, seen yesterday on Camargue coast ? I artificially enlighted some of the photos. I don't see any white on wings nor on the back. Shape seem delicate... Perhaps Wood Sandpiper ? I don't know if they fly in such groups ? Thank you
  19. G

Lesser Kestrel ? Camargue, France, apr 19th

The head pattern and belly color seem ok, but there are many spots on underwings, and the claws look dark. Maybe a 2CY male ? Thank you

    Raptor confirmation - southern France

I've just seen that bird today in Alleins, Bouches du Rhône, Provence, France. I'm thinking of a Booted Eagle, but need your help. The bird was extremely far, and the photos are bad... But perhaps the shape is enough, in particular the open tail ? It was playing with wind, not moving or so...

Water / Rock Pipit help - Finistère (FR)

There were 3 Pipits on the beach today (Moelan sur mer, Finistère). I'm almost certain one of them was a Water Pipit, with a little rosy patch on the breast, and chasing other Pipits. I would say that all pictures show Water P. (same individual) except the penultimate, which is a Rock Pipit ? Thanks
