pottahoppa, was that you I spoke to yesterday on the Newton Garth farm track? You had a Jack Russell and I had a Newfoundland with me.

    Durham Birding

Hi Debbie, I was at the above bridge this morning. Looking from the bridge towards the A167 road bridge there was 4 Dippers and many Grey Wagtails. There was also plenty of Nuthatches in the surrounding trees. The Dippers seemed to prefer the 3 rocks under the road bridge

    Northumbrian Birding

Got to say, the first time I ever encountered a Lapland Bunting it was sitting in a bush with Reed Buntings after being flushed by a dog on The Leas at South Shields!

    Northumbrian Birding

Ron, a few years back we were fishing from Harbour View, South Shields, which directly faces North Shields fish quay and we had an otter swimming around in front of us. I was amazed, but some of the lads had seen them before. They seem more active in the harbour at night.

    Neoprene neck strap for SX50?

I'm looking for a neoprene neck strap to fit the narrow lugs of the SX50. All of my spare straps have 10mm webbing straps which won't fit through the lugs and I can't find anything narrow enough on google/ebay/amazon?

Waterproof jacket for birding in the UK

I picked up the old model Barbour Cheviot at an agricultural show for £100 (£275 for new style) and it's almost perfect. Waterproof but not waxed cotton, very warm (too warm tbh), all brass fittings, great hood, silent material and breathable. It's my go to coat in the winter. In the...

    Durham Birding

Grange Park in East Boldon has a good head of House Sparrows who use the nest boxes there. Not communal boxes, but made with holes that were too big to keep them out which they have exploited to their advantage.

    Repairs to stay on case?

Replacement cases are available on Amazon for £35 and 2 local cobblers have quoted me £2 an inch for zip replacements (£24 for the objective lens cover zip) so it's looking like a new case is better value. Thanks again for all the help and replies.

    Repairs to stay on case?

Thanks for the replies. I tried a local cobbler and a local dressmaker and the problem they had was obtaining the size of zip needed. I've contacted Olivon's European HQ (thanks Pete) and I'm now waiting to see whether or not they still stock the cases for the older models like mine.

    Repairs to stay on case?

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know of anywhere that could replace a zip in a stay on case? (UK, preferably NE England) The zip for the objective lens cover on my Olivon T90ED has broken, leaving the scope free to fall out of the case when it is being carried, which is a bit of a pain...

    Birding location help needed

Hi Susie, you could try the Whitburn coastal park and surrounding area. In the last few days it's had a Barred Warbler, a Wryneck, a Red Backed Shrike, an Arctic Warbler and at least two Greenish Warblers!

I had a shorty hunting just north of the mound this morning, the first one I've seen on the Leas for a while, although I've spotted one hunting the grass verge in front of the Lime Kilns at Whitburn a few times lately. I also had 7 Snow Buntings still kicking about at Frenchmans Point. Female...

I bought a book a couple of years ago called "Cooking for Birds" by Mark Golley and it works out a lot cheaper to make as much as you can, plus you know exactly what's going into it. I keep the CCG feeders at Westoe Cemetery topped up for 6 month of the year and it quickly runs into 3 figures...

    Durham Birding

I had ordered a new fluid head for Sundays South Tyneside bird race and luckily opted for "collect in store" instead of ordering online. I got an email on Friday afternoon to say they would not be able to complete the order. If I'd ordered online I would have lost my money according to what I...
