Chiffchaff, Common or Iberian? Pyrenees May 24

Only this, or did you mean the chiffy?

Chiffchaff, Common or Iberian? Pyrenees May 24

Hmm, my companion, who is much more knowledgeable than me, did utter the dreaded word, "hybrid"...

Chiffchaff, Common or Iberian? Pyrenees May 24

I have no experience of Iberian so would appreciate opinions on this bird (with reasons please so I can learn). The song was different from common CC and more complex but I was concentrating more on getting a shot so I'm not really able to describe it except that it was "different". I'm hoping...

Kestrel, Lesser or Common French Pyrenees

Seen today in the foothills of the Pyreness was this falcon. It's in an area known for Lesser Kestrel in recent years and ny first thought in the field was that it was a Lesser. However, the trace of moustachial stripe makes me question my first impression. The images are crops from distant...

I'd say Chiffchaff also, and you do live dangerously.

    Redpoll but which?

Worry not, your knowledge is much better than mine!

    Redpoll but which?

Thanks, it's the only image I have since scanning only a selection of my old trannies.

    Redpoll but which?

I'm probably not alone in being confused with identification of Redpolls and I found this shot from Alaska in April 92, can anyone pin down which "type" it is please? Thanks, David

North East London yesterday an Accip. flyby?

Strange though. I agree comment on edited images with IMG****, but look at the data above and both have the same date/time stamp but widely differing DSCO numbers. I'm not familiar with that Sony model but something is very odd here.

Urgent - the birds in Italy need your help

We may have a range of opinions on the usefulness of on-line petitions but I beg you to read on. The Italian parliament is debating a bill which, if passed, could have a devatating effect on the birds in that country. LIPU, BirdLife in Italy, have an on-line petition at...

    Feathers from Switzerland

Posting for a friend who recently found these in his large garden about 840m asl. He says, "Shafts shattered. Downy feathers no longer available but those found earlier were boldly barred grey and black." Local concensus is settling on domestic hen, perhaps a Coucou de Rennes but confirmation...

    Would it be too cosy?

Sorry, my last was about nesting not roosting but I still think the best thing is to leave well alone. We have a Blue Tit roosting in our camera box and I assume most or all the other boxes are occupied as well and all seem to manage well.

    Would it be too cosy?

Leave it empty. Decades ago I "tried to help" by putting some soft fabric in a box. It was fortunate that I was watching later because I saw a bird trying to pull it out of the nest hole. It was jammed in the hole and the other bird was trapped inside! I kicked myself, opened the box and emptied...
