Vortex Fury 8x32 or Minox BD BR 8x32 ??

I don't know anything about the Minox, but I bought a pair of the Vortex Fury 8x32 recently, and I really like them. The image is very clear, and they are easy to adjust. I haven't been out with them very much yet, but I think I will be very happy with them. And the warranty is great, another...

    Birdwatching on Mt. Hood

I am trying to get more active in birdwatching again and just bought a new pair of binoculars yesterday. My husband and I hike on Mt. Hood a lot. Anyone have recommendations for good birding areas on Mt. Hood or in the vicinity? Thanks!

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

Mission accomplished! And bearclawthedonut, I ended up with a Vortex Fury 8x32, so similar to yours. I spent about an hour at Audubon trying out several different Vortexes and Leupolds. The Fury just felt the best and seemed the easiest to use, even though it was a bit heavier than what I...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

Still no sales tax in Oregon! :-) They carry the Fury, too, so I will compare. It, of course, costs more. (Actually the Fury they carry is 8x32.) I will compare with full size, too, to see the difference in view and such.

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

I'm going to try to get to the Portland Audubon Society tomorrow. I was sent a price list, and, if you are a member, prices are pretty comparable to EagleOptics--much to my surprise. Right now they have Vortex diamondbacks 8x28 on sale for $115, which is cheaper than Eagle Optics by quite a bit...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

That's good to know about Eagle Optics. It may very well come in handy! I know the Audubon Society carries Leupold, so perhaps I will get to see the Yosemite there.

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

A trip to REI and another clerk who kept referring to the cheat sheet to figure out anything about the binoculars. I tried the Monarchs again, since so many recommended them. I think I could manage the weight, but both times I have tried them, I keep getting a shifting black shadow, especially...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

Thanks, bearclawthedonut. I think I do need to try a few more out. I know the Monarch had more than enough eye relief. I have been reading up on the different things to look for. I will try to find a place where someone actually knows something about binoculars. The places I went the clerks...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

It seems like it just gets more confusing. I may need to get out and look again. REI isn't too far away, and it has a couple of the bins mentioned. I really appreciate all the help! I just need to decide how much power I need and what size I can feel comfortable with. Thanks, everyone! I'm...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

Jerry, I do wear glasses while viewing. I am pretty much blind without them, so it would be too difficult to keep taking them off and putting them back on. My only other binoculars are the one I got as a 9 year old and a cheap 7x35 Bushnell I was given a few years back which never seems to give...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

I got out to a couple local stores that have a few bins. One place had the Monarch 8x42, which felt comfortable to hold, but too heavy for me. I tried a pocketable Nikon Sportstar 10x25, which was too light for the power. The one that felt the most comfortable and about the right weight was a...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

I would love to be able to go and compare some of the different binoculars in person, but I can't seem to find any place around here that carries the ones I want to see. I have been checking online and calling around. Why are the ones recommended online not the ones the local stores carry? But...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

I have been reading about the Bushnell 7x26 Elite E2, and it sounds pretty good--apparently excellent optics, 14.5 oz., good eye relief. I think I am starting to lean toward it, if I can find a good deal. Still considering, though... It isn't waterproof, but I'm not sure how important that is. I...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

Thanks for all the replies so far. I am looking into all the suggestions. I hadn't considered the importance of it being waterproof, but that is a good suggestion--would definitely be an advantage here in Oregon. I am still debating on weight; I would like something under a pound, but don't want...

    Good, but inexpensive, lightweight binoculars?

I am getting back into birdwatching after not doing much for many years. I am looking for a pair of binoculars that are small and lightweight, have good eye relief (I wear glasses), and don't cost much (under $200, preferably), but still work well. I have been reading up on the subject, but...
