    Frame or Mounting Image

Personally I'd crop a bit off the left making the tree areas pretty much the same. I'd also crop a bit of the top. I'd also darken the background a tad to make it pop, just a personal thing of course. As to frame a thin white beveled mat.

    Anyone know Lenovo Ideapads

Hi Delia, Once you use a second monitor for a while you start to wonder how you ever survived with just one :) You can have all sorts of things open on it, like phrase express, saves digging it out from under the document you are working on all the time. The suggestions for an SSD are for your...

    Anyone know Lenovo Ideapads

Personally I like Lenovo, have never had problems with them. Unlike Dell that seem to be a personal nemesis. I'm guessing your looking at this. http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-300-series/ideapad-300-15ISK/p/80Q70021US#tab-tech_specs Looks fine. Add a second monitor and a usb...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Problem solved Very few cameras would ever arrive with even a partially charged battery. I'd be real "interested" in a cameras history if one arrived with a charged one. Words in books mean little.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I don't know your specific battery but it can take a few cycles through the battery to get it to hold a charge correctly. Charge it fully Fully discharge it ie watching the idiot box an taking pics of your foot will do. Do this 3 or 4 times, watch how many shots you get each time. If your still...

Current best bridge camera for birds

Grando, I used the sx50 with a Reynox DCR 250 for shooting moths in the field with no problems. Put chdk on it for the superfine jpeg option, or shoot raw. It makes not to bad a portable macro rig. But of course does have a small sensor. http://naturewatch.org.nz/projects/moths-of-travis-wetland

corrupted CF card - help desperately wanted!

Good to see you got the images back Steve. Corrupt cards are never fun. For others that find this. Recuva works well https://www.piriform.com/recuva Use the free version. I know this sounds counter intuitive but if all else has failed reformat the card in the camera and then try the recovery...

    Phrase Express

Hi Delia, Open Phrase Express, have a look under the File menu item (upper left). There is an option there to set a password. One of the options there is to prompt for pw on program start, it seems to be ticked by default. Have a play there you may somehow have saved a blank pw, though I...

    search files

Niels, If you mean search the text inside a pdf then DocFetcher can do this http://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html It needs a bit of time to index everything the first time you run it. It's a good app. If you just want a big improvement over the windows search then try Everything...

    rainbow folders

Gave it a run on 10 to see if it still works. It does. Just watch the install for tool bars being added. Some of the free download sites are pains. I grabbed it from Toms Guide, it was clean. The puter needs a reboot for the new colours to show up.

    Canon SX50 Specs

No idea how it's possible by my SX50 will let me select RAW and RAW + JPEG with the 2X on. Just tried it again in case I had got something wrong. Even put a different SD card in, not that that would make a difference. I have a 18.5 Mb CR2 file of this post with 2X on. There's a couple of...

    High frequency Raptor calls

Hi pshute, I don't like the chances of recordings working either. But if I don't try we will never know. They are more likely to come running to something different rather than away. Fencing not really feasible, it would require quite a large area fenced and high enough for people to walk...

    Sonograms

    High frequency Raptor calls

Yes Nutcracker, I agree with your thinking. Unfortunately with these birds they are scared of nothing and more likely to run to a fight than away. Their main alarm signal is visual, a flick of the tail exposing a white set of feathers. Bird semaphore. I suspect I'm heading in another fruitless...

    High frequency Raptor calls

I wish Just a South Island Kokako would suit me :) The reason I'm interested in the sonograms is we have a seriously pesky bird, Pukeko http://www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/pukeko That is targeting a real scarce plant in a wetland that is my 2nd home. I'm looking at ways to persuade it to use...
