    Goshawk? London, UK

I think it is fine to post these sorts of images - it is a great way to learn where the boundary of the identifiable and unidentifiable is For me it is not definitely an accipiter - a buteo could give this sort of silhouette. Agree that this bird is not identifiable!

    Acrocephalus warbler, Aberdeen

I'd be in the Marsh W camp as well with this bird. (not an expert)

    London Warbler.....

There was I thinking that KenM was "hijacking" the Bird Identification thread with some "pixellated videograb" of one species looking like another to "sucker" the unwary and then later amaze everyone with an ID clincher frame that had been "overlooked". I was "wrong". "Apologies" to KenM.

    Brown Bear watching in Slovenia

Thanks for that - I did notice that one company indicated that it would be a hunter that was the guide - which wouldn't be my preference

    Birding in Angkor Wat

I did visit Angkor Wat with SVC as part of a longer trip. Chose a guide that would do birds and the history - well worth it in my opinion.

Bird of Prey South Devon February 2016

The males are smaller than the females so that, along with the weather conditions, may have contributed. Of course, its not possible to say whether this bird is a male from the photos...

    Buzzard sp.....?

You asked for consensus - and it looks like you got it! To be honest, your picture is consistent with RLB, but as a sole piece of evidence it isn't strong enough to be conclusive. If you were watching the bird through bins then I'd have thought the flight jizz would be distinctive enough for...

    Variation in Rock Pipits (littoralis)

The last pic looks more like a water pipit than a littoralis to me with the clean white underparts

    Lothian Birding

One last weekend moving between patches of woodland between Craigmillar and Little France. A similar area again - could easily be a single roving bird I've seen 3 times - or a sign that they are now establishing themselves in this part of Edinburgh

    John's Mammals 2016

I don't actively list mammals but do visit John's mammals threads as a lurker - glad he is back Had an Otter in the sea off Barns Ness in Lothian today - first I have seen there! Geoff

    Lothian Birding

Nice to bump into you again y'day. Well done on the Water Rail - by no means easy to see at this site! Raven is also unexpectedly rare here. I've only seen it once I think and not for a year or so. Yet to get it onto my garden list. I'm looking forward to 2016 as I'll have a bit more time for...

    Playtime for Hooded Crows

I've also watched crows in Edinburgh sliding in snow - on their sides and also wing-flapping down a slope standing on an object like the second video posted. Scroll down on this link for some pics of a bird lying on its side making a snowball with its feet - it certainly seemed to be doing this...

    Lothian Birding

Haven't had much opportunity for birding lately but have noted a couple of Jays in places that I don't think I've seen them before: Millerhill/Old Craighall and Duddingston Geoff

    torch for spotlighting

Much smaller than the Fenik and the P14, I use a £25 Lifesystems LED torch. The small size means it is really portable and you can easily hold it against bins or DSLR to get views or shots. I've seen lots of great nocturnal stuff with it. I realise that this is the type of thing that you are...

Type of Eagle in Tanzania - Late September

I don't think that is a Brown Snake-eagle as the proportions look much more like one of the aquila eagles - my best guess would be Lesser Spotted Eagle - but to be honest I'm not sure
