Birding/Twitching and Global warming
And back to the OP ;) I am not a twitcher as the idea of driving across the country to view a rare visitor does not really appeal (I discovered this when standing on Marazion beach some years back in freezing horizontal rain and then cowering on the cafe trying to warm up, having stopped caring...- popeye67

Hi Canip, thank you. Swapping them does seem to be the most sensible option, I'm being cautious as it would be an expensive swap for me. It's just shame I get the glare issue on the 8x32 :) -

My "not really that interested in birds" OH and I were at a well known optics shop that overlooks a piece of wetland and suddenly asked "is that a purple sandpiper" out of the blue. Worse for me was that I hadn't spotted it at all.......- popeye67

Swap EL8x32 for EL8.5x45 advice please
Hi guys, I am mulling over changing my Swaro EL8x32 bins for their 8.5x42 bins and welcome any advice or thoughts from folks who have used both and/or swapped between them. The 8x32s are the latest Pro model, but like many others I suffer dreadfully from the glare issue. This is a bigger issue... -

Looking for help to choose the best landscape and birdwatching binoculars
Hi Martin, Opticron are worth a look as they make some good all rounders. They have a good website, but do have an extensive range, so it can get a bit confusing at times. Hawke are also worth a look - they punch above their weight price wise and have a pleasing feel "in the hands". Please do...- popeye67

UK Swarovski dealer recommendations?
I use Lakeside Optics at Chew Valley Lake in Somerset - obviously a long way down the country, BUT, they are on the edge of one of the best birding lakes in Britain, so you get to try out the kit in a real environment. Great service form them over the years and recommend them very highly :) -

Pheasants in the UK
Originally all pheasants were imported birds from the far east and raised for shooting. There is now a healthy feral population, but one should be mindful that most have been reared and released for the gun- popeye67

Opticron Discovery 7x42
I intend to take a look at these - as someone with mild shake in my hands 7x gives me much clearer apparent magnification. It would be nice to see some other manufacturers follow suit as of recent years 7x has been something of a gap in the marketplace. -

New released Swaro CL Companion 8x30 B
I use the conventional strap lugs and have a standard fitting strap which, for me, overcomes what I see as a fussy and inconvenient cord system. I've had no problems with the bayonet pins whatsoever :t: -

I final update on this from me - I have now tried the SLC 8x42s and directly compared with my EL 8x32s and, for my eyes, I found the ELs preferable. The irritation I have with the Field Pro strap has largely been solved by fitting a new version FSSP floating strap designed to fit the ELs (the... -

Do the optics greatly improve with the price?
This is a very sensible question and is something I have been mulling over for a while. The short answer is yes - you get what you pay for etc. However I believe there is a ratio in improvement. for example pay £200 you get an ok pair of bins, pay £400 and you probably get something twice as...- popeye67
