Any further reports (one way or the other) re: the Stint? I’m based in Worcester, and don’t have it on my UK list.

    That'll do!

    Upton Warren

I've not been to Upton before, but would quite like a look around this afternoon. How do I get a day permit for today? The two places the website lists as selling them (the Wildlife Trust HQ and the Outdoor Centre next to the reserve) both seem to be closed. Or at least, they're not answering...

    Yorkshire Birding

Distance too Spurn isn't a problem, as I'm staying in the area over the weekend. Would be a shame if I couldn't drive down to the point, though. Since I haven't been able to get hold of the map on the Observatory website (but do have maps of the peninsula), which area is the triangle? It's not...

    Yorkshire Birding

Thank-you. Whilst I'm here, I notice the Spurn website is down for maintenance. I'd like to access the map that was on this page: www.spurnbirdobservatory.co.uk/map.html I can see it on Google's cache, but can't save and print it. Does anyone have it in to email me or a working link?

    Yorkshire Birding

I'm looking to make a first trip to Spurn one day over the bank holiday weekend. This means I don't know the place save looking at the map. :p So which road do you mean? The one down the Neck beyond Warren Cottage?

Is the Surf Scoter still about off Langstone Rock?

    Devon Birding

Many thanks for those who passed on info. Sadly - and has been widely reported - it had been flushed by some asshole photographers. So much for those of us who simply wanted even a glimpse of it. Can totally see why it's best to suppress some birds, now. I did get the Surf Scoter and see my...

    Devon Birding

I am coming down to the area tomorrow, and would like (if it sticks around) to see the Long-eared Owl that's at Exminster Marshes. I'd be grateful for any info about where it's been roosting, or seen hunting. Thanks! Near to the car park, along station road?

Michaela Strachan to Join Autumnwatch 2011

I understand the base location for the first four weeks is Westonbirt, and the second four weeks Slimbridge. I presume the live shows and Unsprung each Friday will come from those places and the reports from the ^^above^^ sites (Spurn et al) will be recorded and then broadcast during the live shows.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

Marsh Sandpiper at Blacktoft Sands. Tremendous bird. It kept landing in front of each hide I sat in, too!

    Raptor - Forest of Dean.

Whilst viewing Goshawks from New Fancy View in the Forest of Dean this afternoon, this raptor flew right overhead. I first thought it was a Goshawk, and so fired off a series of shots. Upon loading the photographs to my computer, it's obviously not a Goshawk. So it's a Peregrine or Kestrel...

    Price drop on 7D

I think I'm gonna go into my local Jessops and say I want them to match the Dixons price (without the code), and if they match it I'll buy with them, if not I'll buy it through Dixons right there on the spot. :p

    Ecuador and the Galapagos.

My parents (mother an enthusiastic birder) are off to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in a few weeks. Bird books are required! I've tracked down the Photographic Guide to Birds of Ecuador and Galapagos (Byers), but they also want a more detailed book they can take with them - Collins sized or...

    [UK] Possible Greater Scaup?

I left the site at 10am, and the bird was still there. Didn't want to say anything until I'd checked my images on my computer, though.

    [UK] Possible Greater Scaup?

Was out to see the Severn Bore this morning and came across this (to my mind) suspicious duck associating with a pair of definite Tufties (adult male adult female). It seemed bigger than either of them, and so I fired off some photos on my compact camera. Here are the best of them - all of the...

Miracle in the marshes of Iraq

That's a bit harsh! It doesn't put our ambitions to shame, merely into perspective. EDIT: Regarding the flock of Teal; didn't the narration suggest that this flock was more than the previously estimated world population of Marbled Teal? Hence the amazement?

Miracle in the marshes of Iraq

I think it was important to show the 'political' situation that surrounds the marshes, as the dangers faced by those who come to film there only serve to emphasise how far the country has to go before this magical place can attract the world to it. If a simple film crew cannot make easy going of...

Miracle in the marshes of Iraq

Yeah, that was the best wildlife doc I've seen in a long, long time. If the country could only be stabilised, that place would be an essential visit.
