    Zimbabwean eagle

Hi, I saw this a few days ago in southwest Zimbabwe. Is it just a Steppe Buzzard, or something more unusual? Booted Eagle comes to mind with those colours and that short tail, but it was too far away to see if it had white shoulder patches. Thanks,

    Zimbabwe raptor

I saw this raptor in Hwange National Park, northwest Zimbabwe earlier this month and I'm struggling to ID it. There had been heavy rain so birds were very wet, which might be making this harder than it should be. Any ideas?

    Indonesia - Bali & Java

Hi all, I'm using A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Indonesia, but it doesn't give information for all species! I have a couple of queries from my recent trip to Indonesia: 1-2: Baluran National Park, East Java. Javan Cuckooshrike? 3-4: Same place. Some sort of bulbul perhaps? 5: Bedugul...

Hi Dean African Hawk-eagle for the last pic - was this taken in Harare? I spent quite a few years living and birding in Zim. Brilliant birds! Enjoy

    Cuckoo, Western Australia

Seems the general consensus is Shining over Horsfield's due to the lack of any eye-stripe. Thanks everyone!

    Cuckoo, Western Australia

Hi, I photographed this cuckoo near Fitzgerald River National Park, southwestern Australia. It seems to be a young bird missing the barring on the underparts, which raises the question; is it a Horsfield's or Shining Bronze-cuckoo? Is it possible to determine the species of a bird of this age?

    ID's from Zambia

Hi there, Got a few unknowns from Zambia recently. Apologies for the rather shoddy pictures! 1. The first is a swallow seen on the edge of Lake Kariba, on the border with Zimbabwe. Any ideas? The other three are from Kasanka National Park, central Zambia (south of the Bangwelulu wetlands). 2...

Hello Unfortunately haven't got my Birds of Africa field guide with me, but best I can do without it is this: 1. Eremomela sp. It would help to know where in Angola these were taken. 2. Dusky Lark? 3,4. Looks like a Familiar Chat 5. Is a juv. waxbill/mannikin. Leaning towards Mannikin, but not...

    Heron, Perth

Here's a photo showing where the heron was seen. You can (barely) see the heron on the top of the trees, in the center of the picture. The wildlife center is to the left of this spot.
