Chicago to Whitefish point & back

We did not visit anything but the lighthouse piers, beach areas, drove by and looked at a few off the road places nothing. Whitefish point - NOTHING. National forests...nothing. However...our luck paid off...one night at whitefish point we got to assist in the capture and release of a juvenile...

Chicago to Whitefish point & back

Book arrived yesterday. I am also getting the garmin topo maps for my handheld and car gps that have a lot of the "off the road/beaten path" birding areas. Hopefully, the weather will hold out. Presently, the weather channel has it raining almost every day next week, from traverse city all the...

Chicago to Whitefish point & back

We are leaving on a trip in 2 weeks. We will be driving up the coast of lake michigan, passing through south haven, traverse city, mackinaw city, and finally to Whitefish point. Any hotspots to look for? I understand the migration is starting around that time. Any state parks along the way...

    Kowa 883 digiscoping eyepieces

Yes, I had the EXACT same problem. I called the merchandiser back and they said the 25xLER is meant for target practice only. She indicated I should use either the 20-60x on 20x, or get the 30x fixed. Source was opticsplanet.com

    kowa883+(lumix g1, lumix lx3, or nikon p6000)

Ordered and on the way. I was comparing the specs side by side with the Canon SD890IS that I had, and this looks like a much better camera for the same price I paid. Well, now I have an extra P&S to carry anywhere.

    kowa883+(lumix g1, lumix lx3, or nikon p6000)

Rick, thanks again. Glad to see you are happy with your purchases. Last I checked last night, the camera was listed as "discontinued" on a few sites. I usually purchase my stuff from Adorama (not this last time) but when I checked the only item available was one in silver, instead of black, and...

    kowa883+(lumix g1, lumix lx3, or nikon p6000)

Ridiculously expensive is right Yes I agree. I didn't do enough research ahead of time and was led to believe by the retailer the da10/da4 was worth the cost, and that it was really the only way to go. Coupled with trying to use the very scope unfriendly Canon sd890is, I am in the predicament...

    kowa883+(lumix g1, lumix lx3, or nikon p6000)

Timedrifter, Maybe it was that the g1 does not easilly adapt to the kowa883? Since there are quite a few posts on here I don't recall, but I did read at least one that somebody posted. Thats why I'm trying to get a clear consensus as to which camera setup is the best, and what other adapters...

If price were no issue, which one of the 3 cameras above is the best at digiscoping with the 883+da10+da4 adapters? If they will not work with the adapter specified, please advise on what is needed. I have followed various threads on here and was set to get the lumix lx3, but found it to be...

Panasonic LUMIX FX150 on Kowa 883

Canons SD890IS Thanks for all the info guys. We took stationary pics at approximately 50-75 meters and they came out fine. We had a grouping of cormorants that we were very pleased with. We don't wear glasses. With this setup, we focus first using the scope only and then close the combo with...

Panasonic LUMIX FX150 on Kowa 883

Motion pictures - wind Canon SD890IS vs Lumix FX150 Rick, Here is the problem we are having. And maybe its the camera we have again, or maybe using the wrong eyepiece. We have the 20-60x, and the 25LER fixed kowa. We do not have the 30WA. I will not name the retailer who sold us the thousands...

Panasonic LUMIX FX150 on Kowa 883

Same set up I have the KOWA883, the 20x-60x, and the 25LER. Currently using da4/d10 setup I believe and a canon sd890is set up. Anything moving is a complete blur, but you seem to have a few good ones. Will this work with the 30x WA? Any major problems you have yet? How long to get used to...

BEST NON-slr, currently produced digital camera for use with Kowa883

I have had numerous problems lately with getting good images using the Canon SD890IS and my brand new Kowa883 scope. I have the tsnda4 and da-10 adapters, and a strong tripod. What is the absolute best digital PandS camera out there at this time? I will only be using up to 2.5x digital zoom (as...

Digiscoping shaking/setup B (: Rick - Happy new year to you as well. The problem is that kit you refer to, which I have, does NOT come with the shutter release cable. It has everything BUT the cable. Not sure why they included it with the picture. I am not finding a cable release that is...

Digiscoping problem - Shutter release shake

Steve, i am using the Bogen Kit 055XDB, with the 128RC2 head. As I would like to be able to use a high shutter speed, that's where my problem is coming in with this particular camera, since full auto leaves me no choice, and manual does not allow me tv or av priority. Although extremely...

Digiscoping problem - Shutter release shake

Thanks to both of you for the prompt info. The waterfowl and/or birds are going to be between 150 and 250 meters from me. So in 3 seconds, they can swim quite a distance horizontally away from me (using magnified scope images of 20x and 2x on the camera. The camera I have does not allow for...

We tried again today. We are using the Kowa 883, angled, with the fluorite crystal zoom. It is on 20x. We are using the da4&d10 kowa adapter combo. The camera is a Canon SD890IS. We have tried fully auto and manual modes. Our best shots to date have been when we use the timer at 1 second...

Kowa 883, Canon SD890IS and the DA4/D10 setup

I posted this on another page, but thought it might warrant a posting here. The images through both the camera, and the scope, INDEPENDENT of each other are crystal clear. However, when the the setup is attached and the zoom lens extended fully, there seems to be extreme graininess when looking...
