    Tern sp., Guangxi, China

with the caveat they're not the clearest of pics im ever gonna see of a tern (no offense :p) typically i'd expect to see a paler looking tern with regard to the upperparts grey with a stronger darkish wedge on the leading edge of the primaries (more like sandwich tern than common tern style if...

    Tern sp., Guangxi, China

no idea of the region but as noted above, bill looks good for Common Tern, as does dark shafts through the primaries (timing also in keeping for the extent of this, ie later in the year you'd expect more), diffuse dark trailing edge to underwing primaries, longish tail, white leading edge to...

    Bee-Eaters on UK telly programme

i know some years ago (i've no idea now days) that divers were cited as the most common bird calls used in movies, pretty much every horror movie used them

    Slotted secondary feathers

as mentioned earlier in the thread, it sounds like moult or damaged feather replacement, and the fact it was noted across multiple birds is highly suggestive of birds (possibly of similar age) in moult with regard to the species involved, we can't comment on that without pictures but the...

    Slotted secondary feathers

something like this? looks battered to hell here but from a distance/mid distance the moult will typically look less harsh and more 'uniform', with the notches being what stands out

    Achrocephalus or Sylvia borin?

well the vid kills any argument against an acro for me, even has a nice warm rusty rump, reed warbler style quick look in literature gives a range of leg colours of grey-brown to blue-grey for Reed Warbler... (fwiw, cites marsh warbler as pale straw to greyish; Birds of Britain - Hume et al 2nd ed)

    Bird- Slovakia

colouration of the upperparts (and generally) + strength of head streaking fits more yellowhammer than greenfinch for me but it's clearly not written in stone, is the colouration even reliable and not leaf casting colours? checking the bill again - besides heftiness, shape actually is more in...

Black Vulture? (location inside a plane's cockpit, otherwise unknown; mildly gruesome)

chicken :ROFLMAO:, that made me chuckle, i had visions of angered rustic types throwing their largest chickens at low flying planes

    Bird- Slovakia

i have no confidence in non birder's evaluations and like alexander suggests above, one saying 'red on chest' wouldn't put me off yellowhammer as i can see the chest streaking being interpretated that way (without further inquiry of the observer) i do agree on the bill looking too heavy and...

Barrow's or Common Goldeneye? Mývatn, Iceland

i agree, even if it is 'real' and possibly a useful 'query' feature, it wouldn't be of use at long range for sure on my patch common goldeneye is common through winter and spring and in good light the yellow eye is often striking, so maybe at mid range and closer in the right light the green...

Barrow's or Common Goldeneye? Mývatn, Iceland

ah crap, yes you are correct in that i didn't make it clear at all in my original post that i was refering to eye colour, my bad so to reiterate, to my eye, in photos female Barrow's appear to have a pale/insipid green hue/element to their eye colour in contrast to female Common Goldeneye that...

Barrow's or Common Goldeneye? Mývatn, Iceland

yes, but as i stated - in photos, so is it an artifact of pics or there in the field? was my question it's easy to see online, just pull up pages of clearly female barrow's and clearly female common and compare, it's pretty consistent (tho there are outliers) barrow's goldeneye female at...

Barrow's or Common Goldeneye? Mývatn, Iceland

more of an aside than anything else... after reading Brian's comment regarding bill colour/nostril feature, i've been trawling a ton of pics of both common and barrow's goldeneye females for comparisons/variations and have by chance noticed something i dont recall being present in literature...

Not a great horned owl, but the call has the same pattern?

variation? I know our (UK) owls do the typical and plenty of other stuff not so typical have a listen to this higher pitched female Great Horned Owl dueting, not a million miles away, so to speak XC560505 Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus)

Phylloscopus Call for ID - Eastern Himalayas, India

XC766072 Hume's Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus humei) assuming it's leaf warbler, sounds good for Hume's as suggested already

    Waterfowl ID

looks like a male Paradise Shelduck (Tadorna variegata - new zealnd origin, often kept in wildfowl collections) - somewhat tragic name for that individual

Unknown bird for old textile design, yet probably common ...

Everytime i think about passenger pigeons it pisses me off big time, a horrendous record of foolishness/ignorance/belligerence of immigrants in north america and the pigeon wasn't their only 'victim' either

Unknown bird for old textile design, yet probably common ...

Even allowing for artistic licence, i can't see an artist giving a roller a huge white eye-ring. The look of a Roller is quite the opposite of a wide open expression like this bird, in part due to the dark/black surround of the eye. I can't see an artist, no matter how artistic he's being doing...
