    Birding guide

Can anyone recommend a local knowledgable bird guide for the Monteverde or Manuel Antonio areas? Previous posts seem to be out of date and links expired.

    Birding near Sao Paolo

I'm coming to Sao Paolo in early September for a work trip. I will have about a day for birding. Any suggestions of somewhere within driving distance of Sao Paolo with good birds? I could spend one night somewhere outside of town. I would be happy to hire a guide for a day, if anyone knows a...

Bird ID Puzzle -- "Me, You etc."

Yeah, I thought about a wagtail, but I couldn't find one that really matched the plumage of this bird, independent of the red back. And what wagtail hangs out in trees? The face of the wite-eared sibia looks about right, but I can't imagine someone would have taken the head of one bird and...

Bird ID Puzzle -- "Me, You etc."

Does anyone know what the bird is that features prominently in the Miranda July film "Me, You and Everyone We Know"? I'm attaching a screen shot. I don't even know what part of the world the bird is supposed to come from. The red on the back looks exceptionally unusual to me...

    macro flower

Hi Jay, Thanks for the response. I agree with what you are saying, but it begs the question. I would like to know what the technical difference is between the different focus modes. I have not been able to find this information on the web, and it seems that all the digiscopers choose their...

    macro flower

Does anybody know what the difference is between the macro focus mode and the auto-focus mode? And what does the yellow flower mean? All the CP4500 manual says is to use macro and the yellow flower for close-up shots. I'm trying to decide which settings to use for digiscoping, and it is...

    cleaning without harming coating

There does not seem to be a consensus here. Why should breath be ok but lens cleaning fluid is not ok? I don't know about you all, but I have all kinds of nasty stuff in my mouth. Also, some poeple have suggested cotton swabs. I would think cotton would be very abrasive on the lens, much more so...

    cleaning without harming coating

Does anyone know what affects the coatings of a scope? i'm concerned about clearning my scope. is it ok to use lens-cleaning fluid? alcohol? tap water? breath? i'm sure many people use these things, but does anyone know what the coatings are and what really affects them?

    tripod for swarovski scope

thanks for the pointers. i'm a little confused though. if it's not windy, why wouldn't any tripod be stable? have you experienced problems taking photos through the 443 because it shakes in the wind? also, is it a disadvantage to have a lighter scope, because it's less stable, or is it only the...

    tripod for swarovski scope

hi. i'm brand new to digiscoping. so new, in fact that i don't even have a scope yet. i'm pretty sure i am going to get the swarovski at-80 hd scope, which seems to be the best, and the 20-60x eyepiece. it looks like it will run me $1900, and if anyone has a good suggestion on where to buy it...
