Red-footed Booby Bishop Rock Lighthouse, Scilly

Great pics John, Seahorse definitely gave us a brilliant trip with the Cory's raft after we left the lighthouse. Neil

    First time noctovid user

100% agree with you Matt, I also had the opportunity to acquire a used pair in hardly used condition. I am a Leica man anyway as I can't use Swarovskis but upgrading from my original HD Ultravids to these is worth it IMO. Will I upgrade again, who knows? Neil

Leica is not getting the attention it deserves

Swarovskis literally do make me sick! Even trying them for a brief view makes me feel queasy. Whereas I am on my third pair of Leicas. This shows even the best made most highly rated bins do not suit all as there is nothing worse then buying a very expensive optic without a thorough testing...

How about Holkham Gap and Holkham Hall grounds, very bracing in the winter and should be good birding on the saltings and possible sea duck rafts etc?

Rare and Scarce Birds in Warwickshire

I would like to question what an Oxfordshire based bird club is reporting on Warwickshire breeding birds and why the news was even published in the first place? I realise Red Kites are no big breeding news but shouldn't this info have been released via the Warwicksire recorders? Neil

    Accomodation query Scilly this Autumn

To rent a self catering apartment on your own for 3 weeks will be very expensive. If you can find a place to share with other birders that will work out the best value (we pay £108 per head for a week , but this is with 5 sharing the £540 total cost) also combined with the fact that you are...

    Bill Oddie and Regatta

CI's may be expensive but they really last, had mine for about 14 years I think!! Main problem is they keep me too warm some times!!! Rarely have to wear a fleece under it. Most of my gear is Rohan as it again lasts for years. Neil

Meindl boots - Cracked on the instep

I chucked my meindl boots after 3 years as the heels had really worn down and they had a really hard life, but they definitely looked in better nick than the one's you are showing!! Neil

    Crocodile Island, Luxor, Jan 2008

My partner had no problems either. It was a good week, with only a couple of species not seen (Painted Snipe and Blue-cheecked Beeater) that I had seen there previously in the summer. Both species were not on the Island at the time. Thouroughly recommend. Neil

    American warblers, Scillies, lack thereof

Not so sure shipping is part of the reason for Yanks on the Scillie's. Why no Sparrows??? Just look at were Yank sparrows & Junco's turn up! Neil

    Yellow-nosed Albatross

Why does it have to be a Yellow-nose? Have you completely ruled out Black-browed? Neil
