    Garden / Yard List 2024

    Just had a Little Egret over the garden 2nd ever iirc. A bit of an anomaly as I am getting them every time on my local patch a few hundred yards from the house. Nice to see the first juv Goldfinch yesterday as numbers are way down this year.

    Would second that. I have started to use sunflower heart pieces which go down really well and are a little cheaper as they are 'broken'. They really attract Goldfinches in as well with very little waste. Also I would imagine it would slow down the bigger birds pigeons etc.

    I would do some research as well on customer service i.e if you ever need any repairs done. There appears to be a great difference on how different companies treat their customers and how prompt their service is. Also warranties vary greatly and what is covered for free.

    The single fledged Robin should be fine it was obviously making the most of your generous handouts of mealworms.     Just downloaded it and given.it a quick go. It correctly identified some species but also added Blackcap (which I couldn't hear so doubtful) and Swift which are present but I couldn't see any at that time. Personally I wouldn't want to rely on it without getting some kind of look at the bird...

    Shaw House this is the spot, you can't miss it due to the very short grass surrounded by dry stone walls directly behind the farm.

    Thanks for the reply. I did consider Harlequin but wrongly assumed that they were noticeably bigger. Thanks for the id pointers, there were quite a few ladybirds in that small area, I will have to have a closer look the next time I'm up there.

    Just had a quick Google and am I right in thinking that the right one is a 2 Spot Ladybird? Am I wrong thinking that all three were mating (whatever the correct term.is)?

    I had a very similar scenario but the post didn't have a cap on. It didn't end well as the post filled with rainwater and flooded the nest. I'm pretty sure if the parents can manage to get in and out the young will manage ok when they are ready to fledge.
