    Mistle or Song Thrush?

Thank you so much for your answers. I feel quite privileged to have 2 visiting daily as Thrushes are pretty rare in my area. Jennie.

    Mistle or Song Thrush?

I've had a pair of Thrushes visiting my garden and feasting on the apples every day since the 25th January, but cannot decide whether they are Mistle or Song Thrushes. I do have fairly good pics, but not sure how to post them, but will have a go! Jennie.

    Dorset birding

A year later to your answer, Mike. A thousand apologies, but I missed it! If you're still around the time to go is about dusk and keep to the tall pines. You will also see and hear Woodcock roding just outside.

Went on a Nightjar Walk on thursday to Holt Heath - nightjars all around and particularly thrilled to get a private display with wing clapping in the car park! Whitesheet Plantation is definitely worth a visit.

    May Weather 2012

Hi Everyone! Great news! I've just had a chat with Bill. He's out of hospital, still a bit weak, but recovering well - and sends his love to all his friends on the Beeb site! Love, Jennie

    Seasonal Nature Photos

Hello Cristian, We haven't met before. Lovely pics, especially the gorgeous blue flower next to the Poppy. Is it a kind of Forget-Me-Not? Jennie

    Bill

No Val, I left before you joined as things were starting to go badly wrong and there were a lot of changes, not for the better, either. I wonder if Ruth is still around and a lady who wrote very long essays about her outings - Nina? Strange how names just pop up. Nina used a wheelchair, but...

    Bill

Hello Peewit, Nice to meet you. I did manage to speak to Bill for a few minutes in the hospital, but It was difficult as you can imagine with all the toing and froing of the nursing staff, but I did send all good wishes from his chums on this forum. Val, I didn't somehow think you were the...

    Seasonal Nature Photos

Lovely, Wendy. I don't think I've ever seen a Purple Orchid. Would they be found in habitat similar to Badbury Rings?

    Seasonal Nature Photos

Many thanks Val. I will certainly have to take my birdsongs with me, just to make sure. What a delightful sound they make... but even I knew the sound of the very first bird I heard in the wood - a Grasshopper Warbler! I was ecstatic as it went on and on and how the sound carries in the...

    Seasonal Nature Photos

Thanks Val. It is lovely, although quite a long drive from where I live, but worth it. I don't believe I've ever seen Turtle Doves - are they easy to spot? Jennie

    Seasonal Nature Photos

On Easter Saturday I was taken to Garston Wood on the Dorset/Wiltshire border for the very first time. Even though it was raining there was the sound of wall to wall warblers, the ground was carpeted with Wood Anemones and the first Bluebells were showing and a couple of Buzzards were calling...

Hello George! Yes, I'm a bit before every one's time! I used to be on the old Beeb Forum with Sue, Ruth, Peter and Wendy. There was also a Val there - would this be palval? Jennie

    Bill

Bill's sister-in-law has just phoned. She saw him yesterday and said he hopes to be out sometime this week and to thank every one for their good wishes. Isn't that wonderful? Jennie

    Hi from Poole, Dorset

Hi Spencer! You've already been to the best local sites - Arne and Radipole, but what about Durleston? There are so many different habitats there, meadow, scrub, coast etc and on top of that you might be lucky and catch sight of a dolphin or porpoise. If you are into butterflies you can also...

    Bill

The miracle is that going through the phone book, thinking it would take forever - the very first number was actually the right one! I'm sending a card with a letter so will definitely add love from his chums at the Beeb. Jennie

    Bill

I've just been speaking to Bill's sister in law who told me that he's been in hospital for six weeks with what they thought was a blood infection, but it now seems there are other problems. She's seeing him tomorrow, so I will keep you updated if that is ok? Jennie

    April Weather 2012

Thunder, lightning and a hail storm that lasted over an hour - almost ankle deep in snowy stuff. Trapped in Sainsbury's with half of Dorset, I think! Jennie

I hope so Kits. His brother lives in Christchurch somewhere, so I'm going through the phone book hoping to find him.

    Bill

Yes, delia, they were great. Did you ever see any of his wonderfully comic poems? At one time on the old Beeb Forum he gave poems to all 'his ladies' as he called us. Thankfully I've kept everything he ever sent me. Jennie

Thanks Wendy, I will. I've sent an email via this Forum to Sue Wright, but it doesn't look as though she is active on here any more. Thanks again for your help and maybe I will post here again sometime soon.

    Bill

I've come here as I'm frantic with worry wondering what has happened to my old chum - just praying someone can help. I used to be on the old BBC Forum, so some might remember me - and have been friends with Bill for over 9 years emailling pictures and chatting, but I last heard from him 13th...

    Dorset birding

Red Kite near Win Green Please forgive me if I post this in the wrong place, but I haven't been around for quite some time. My son took me to Garston Wood on Easter saturday where we saw a pair of Buzzards, Great Spotted Woodpeckers and heard numerous warblers. One was a low, buzzy sound...

    A Woodpecker....not quite

We've only just moved house and have at long last aquired a garden that might see some birdy life. So it was with great joy I heard the tap, tap, tapping of a Woodpecker close by in our neighbour's garden. Peering very cautiously through the hedge I saw my 'woody' was in fact a Great Tit still...
