This has been happening to my 443 for years too. :-(

    NEW nikon monarch 7

Has Nikon improved the durability of their rubber eyecups? I'm on a second set of eyecups for my Nikon 8x32 HGs. Great binoculars let down by this component. The image near the start of this thread suggests the Monarchs may have similar eyecups. They're a lot cheaper than the HG models of...

    New Rainguards are here

In my view, noise is not the issue with these rainguards. Its the stiff hard plastic construction that fits too snuggly over the eyepieces making them time-consuming to place on and take off. I've had binoculars from Nikon, Zeiss and Leica and the Swaros are the worst by some distance. Shame...

Swarovski SLC 7x42 roofs: model history?

I can't add much to what has been written already, but I would add a vote of support for the 7x42 SLC. A few year's ago I resolved to buying a pair of highly-regarded Zeiss Dialyt 7x42. While looking through a pair in store, the sales assistant passed me a pair of the Swarovskis to try. I...

    New Zeiss Spotting Scopes

The Zeiss Victory Diascope 85 T*FL is being discounted in a number of UK stores at present. New model on the way?

Another vote for the Nikon HG/HGL 8x20 and 10x25 from me.

    Swarovski ATM or ATS HD?

I was told by a Swarovski rep that magnesium is now expensive, which is why the ATS/STS has returned to replace the ATM/STM. Optically, the models are the same. Fixed magnification eyepieces are no longer in production. I spent some time with the new ATX range and found the view was not a big...

    Swarovski ATM or ATS HD?

I'm interested in learning the optical quality differences, if there are any, in the outgoing ATM/STM HD magnesium bodied scopes and the new aluminium bodied ATS/STS HD scopes due September. Can we expect some modest improvements? Can anyone recall if there was any change when the old ATS/STS...

Here are the new modular Swarovski scopes

I read somewhere that the current ATM and STM models would be continued in a second-tier category when the ATX and STX are released, albeit in an aluminium rather than magnesium body. Is there any information about price and specification available for these? Thanks

Waterproof Jackets - Keela vs Paramo etc

I have a Keela Kandura jacket, which I bought for around £110 from an independent outdoors store a few years ago. It's a terrific jacket, lengthy enough to cover your thighs. The hood is large enough to keep rain away from your face. I like the two large zipped lower pockets, which are large...

    TSN-4 eyepiece question

Yes! I had a TSN4 with 20x60 zoom from new. Frankly the zoom is poor. I bought a x30wide eyepiece and it transformed what is still an excellent scope. If you can find one, go for the x30wide eyepiece.

    Trinovid 8x32 BA eyecups

I had this trouble a few years ago. I sent them to Leica, who fixed and returned them free of charge, under warranty, in a reasonably quick turnaround time.

    Nikon Edg 8x32 new version

Do the rubber eyecups on the EDG wear down like their counterparts on the HG?

    New Swarovskis on the way?

I've a vague recollection of someone on here commenting that Swarovski had some new products in the pipeline. (It may have been one of the US optics suppliers). I've also spotted that a number of the UK retailers have a reduced their prices on Swarovski 'scopes 'til June 2011. Is this an...

An uncertain future for Olympus e-System, 4/3s and lenses

I thought fellow BFers would be interested in this feature relating to the future of the Olympus 4/3 system and lenses. It seems we will not have any new lenses or bodies anytime soon, and the long-term future of the system appears unclear. I use an e501 body with 70-300mm zoom for insects...

    Lost Land of the Tiger-Tues 21/9/2020 21.00-22.00pm BBC1 Part 1/3

I agree, there's an awful lot of padding in these shows nowadays. I also think that many wildlife programmes are now actually about the 'personalities' behind the lens or in the field than actually about the wildlife. Stunning scenery and wildlife nevertheless. I hope tigers can be saved in...
