How to see Leach's Petrel
The advantage of New Brighton is there is shelter. Whereas Leasowe is totally open to the elements. Hoylake (where Jane is) is another good option with plenty of shelter only down side is viewing is quite low. Cheers Jason -

I would expect New Brighton at first light may be quite productive. It was noticable today after high tide the wind dropped considerably which pushed the seabirds way out beyond the turbines. Will probably have another go tomorrow though. Cheers Jason -

Started at Fort Perch 8-10am only a few Manxies, Common Scoters and a Razorbill. Then went to Leasowe 10-11am very poor here just 1 Bonxie and a few Manxies. So headed to the lifeboat station at Hoylake 11-2pm and what a vast improvement? 1 Sabines Gull & a prob, 1 prob Grey Phal, 10+Bonxies... -

Hi Greg, Your possible Kumlien's is probably a pale 1w Herring Gull, I possibly photographed the same bird last Saturday. I would say on your photos the patterniang of the scapulars and tertials are very Herring Gull. Compare it to a 1w I photographed in 2009 here. Cheers Jason -
Lothian Birding
I decided on Eastfield this afternoon tho later than I would have liked. Quite hypnotic if not slightly monotonous a roost that contains the same species. Great numbers of BH Gulls and Common Gulls with a few larger gulls mixed in and no Med's picked out. With such a large roost of Common Gulls... -

Cheers for the info. Paid Seafield sewage works a visit, pretty much as expected lots of BH Gulls in and around the filter beds and Herring Gulls loafing on the sea. Think I may give a decent roost a visit if you can provide me info. Cheers Jason -

House Sparrows Strange Plumage
Aside from the odd coloration, the photos of the male bird seem to show it having an all chestnut coloured head and lacking a grey crown stripe. Smart bird tho non the less. Cheers Jason- yoyo

Hi Paul Your link takes me to a picture of a Mealy Redpoll not an Arctic. Was at Titchwell yesterday and saw your pictured Mealy and the presumed Coue's, was hoping to find more discussion on this thread about this bird. I don't think it's as clear cut as people are thinking? Cheers Jason -
400 In A Year??
400 would have been achieved this year, I think. I did (with Malc Curtin for competition) 350 BOU (364UK400) in 2007 when fuel costs and species were a hell of a lot lower. With regards unlimited time and money, it did take up all of my time and not much change out of £30k, ouch. Was good fun...- yoyo

SD Card Recovery ?
Not sure where to put this thread, so as i have a Canon where better !! I am after a free SD card revery program. I have d/l'd a couple but are only trials and wont let me recover the files i require. Please, can anybody help? cheers jason -
