Mealworms - are they worth the cost ?

My birding mate, Leon, feeds a pair of Pied Wagtails from the Postroom (where he works) at our hospital in Roehampton. He just bungs a small amount out every now and then. The male often tries to prevent the female from feeding but a judicious 'lob' usually makes sure that the 'bird gets the...

    Seawatching Books?

Hiya! Whilst on my first birding trip to Norfolk this year we stopped at West Runton, Norfolk. Whilst there, a couple of chaps were kind enough to point out quite a few seabirds for us and really made our day. For the rest of the holiday we combined seawatching, where possible, into our days...

    Waxwings

Hiya! Didn't somebody post a link to his/her film of Waxwings set to music on this forum last year? It was truly beautiful! If anybody knows how to find the link I am sure that we would love to see it again! And again! All the very best, Reg

Stone Curlew at Weeting Heath 2009?

Hi Claire! I was there a couple of weeks ago and had some good views of the birds (including youngsters) although we had to be patient as they were in dip furthest away from the hides. The young were attracting lots of attention fromsome gulls ...... ido hope that they survived! Didn't see any...

    PIPEX/TISCALLI Major Problems

Hi Penny! I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with Pipex as I used them for many years and only ever had the very best of service from them. I am now with Virgin (very satisfied) as I have moved and Pipex could not accomodate me! I do hope that your problems can be sorted out...

Bird feeding and Vermin problems !!

Here though... I have two dogs and a Gerbil... would I be able to add them to my list, or is that cheating? You can only count both dogs if they are of different breeds!

Question for people who log their birding.

I note everything that I see but do not bother with numbers. I keep a blog and put the different species down for people to see, not how many as I do not know what would be 'regular' on the different sites that I go to.

    Dungeness is Good in September

Hi Joanne! Leon and I plus a couple of freinds were down to Dunge on the Sunday following your visit. We too saw the injured Ruff. It was hopping about still (it did put its' injured leg down at times) but feeding as it went along. When a Peregrine scattered the birds a little later on it went...

Are you a "Bottle" or a "Flask" Birder?

I take water in the summer and a flask of something hot in the winter. In the winter I sometimes carry a hip flask with something stronger in it just to help keep the spirits up (as they go down!) when sitting for hours waiting for 'that' bird! VERY occaisionally I will take the hip flask at...

    Pishing - Anyone Do It?

I have tried pishing before with very varied results. I have, however, found a fantastic way to attract tits. Whilst in the garden not so long ago I found myself surrounded by a small mixed flock of these little birds. What had drawn them was my old pair of secateurs! I hadn't noticed until then...

Hi Kathy! Many thanks for the link! I hope to start making plans for our next visit when I return to work tomorrow. If you like I will let you know when we are going up, maybe you might like to join us for a days 'birding'? All the very best Reg.

    Paxton-pits - St Neots

I was lucky enough to go to Paxton Pits last year with a small group of freinds and would certainly recommend it to any body who was interested in going! There are quite a few different habitats to see in such a 'small' area; there should be something for everybody! I cannot tell you how glad I...
