...or... If it's a Saturday or Sunday, I may be able to give you a lift. I live in Worksop. When are you planning on going? Thinks.. Saturday would be better - the trains are rubbish on a Sunday.

    Barn Owl population

After years of only seeing barn owls occasionally, recently I've been seeing them everywhere. Has the English population increased significantly in recent times?

    BF 200 Club

I can but try! We're staying in Wells from 8th -15th February. Hopefully the WC Sparrow will still be there and the crowds will have gone dwindled somewhat... Have you still got my mobile number?

    BF 200 Club

You're still the only person on BF to have ticked me! :-) If you want to add me to your 2008 year list, check your PM's... (We'll be in Norfolk for a week in the near future) Dave

    HE2's 2007 Birding Forays

No, they didn't - Unfortunately... No, there wasn't - Believe me, I looked! I didn't like the Leica. Sod-all difference optically but the focussing was a bit too fiddly for my taste. One knob for "coarse" focus and another adjacent for "fine" focus. Try using those in mid-winter with gloves...

    HE2's 2007 Birding Forays

'salright Helen, I believe you. We went to Titchwell today and saw the Curlew Sandruff for ourselves. And the Spoonbill. Expensive day though - trashed my (already battered) Piccolo telescope first time I tried to use it - it simply lept, lemming-like, from the top of my tripod and splattered...

    HE2's 2007 Birding Forays

According to Bird Guides, last week, there was one of them up on Shetland somewhere. Some sort of Plover aren't they?

    HE2's 2007 Birding Forays

Nah. That's not a smew. That's a Pale Tufted Siberian Merganser that is. Either that or a lump of polystyrene...

You've got a death wish haven't you? You'd better PM Helen some (very good quality) chocolate quickly - whilst your soft and squashy bits are still soft and squashy... ;)

    RSPB Bempton Cliffs

We went to Bempton yesterday (15th April). Gannet (everywhere) Razorbill (everywhere) Guillemot (everywhere) Kittiwake (everywhere) Fulmar (to east of visitor centre - none west) Shag (one or two flying north) Puffin (only one or two and tricky to fnd) I wouldn't have thought that photographing...

    Easter 2007

I'd seen the oystercatcher the previous wednesday - it's a "notable" bird for Nottinghamshire. Pleased to here the kingfishers have nested on PM. I'd spent an hour or watching them checking out the various pipes a couple of weeks ago. The BNG must have liked us - it surfaced right in front of...

    Hiya All From Sunny Rotherham

060 : Its for a telescope with a 60mm diameter object lens (the big lens at the front) 27XW : 27 times magnification and Wide Angle (not the same as wide angle on a camera0. Someone who knows will be along shortly to explain the digiscoping thing. Personally, I'd be looking for a zoom...

    Easter 2007

Blacktoft Sands & Potteric Carr : Easter 2007 We had a couple of trips out over the weekend. First was a quick Friday evening trip just up the road to Welbeck for a Red Throated Diver (rare in Notts) and a couple of Mandarin drakes (something that I'd like to see on my 2007 year list). We got...

    HE2's 2007 Birding Forays

Erm. Have a look on Birdguides. There was something stupid there, apparently... <run, ducks and hides> (please don't mention divers) Dave

    Nottinghamshire Birding

Possibly. No brown wings on these though. A quick google found some variations on green pheasant that appear green all over. There's quite a bit of rough shooting in north Notts, so I'd guess they've got something to do with that.

Who would you most like to go out with for a days birding

HE2, because I could impress her by finding a Smew because she thinks that they don't exist. And even if I didn't find one, she wouldn't be disappointed for the same reason. <runs, ducks and hides>

    Nottinghamshire Birding

We had to drive up and down the road two or three times before the fishermen packed up and bu99ered off. Its about 4 miles from where I live, so I'd expect we'll be there quite a bit over the next few weeks. Especially on Fridays. Look out for a pale blue Honda Accord with a 51 registration. ;)
