    Redwing Stourbridge UK

As a novice can anyone confirm my ID as Redwing or otherwise. The bad weather is clearly making them venture further afield for food, I've never seen them here before. Thanks.

Thanks for the directions they were spot on. Went down on Saturday afternoon and there he was sitting in the tree. Had a great view, many thanks. Would he (I'm assuming 'he' of course) use this roost more or less permanently or would this pattern change when he is helping raising young? Cheers.

Hi Sedgley, I often read your posts with interest, so thanks for all your info. I would really like to see if I could spot the Tawny Owl. You mention Whites Wood and the cavity tree. Could you explain where this is in relation to the main car park. I know Baggeridge a bit but I'm not familiar...

Not sure if these people look at this forum but just wanted to say thank you to 3 guys on Sunday 18th March. I was walking along the canal from Kinver towards the Stewpony and met 3 guys looking in the trees, I asked what they were looking for and was told a firecrest I also managed to get a...

Can anyone identify this? Taken St Marys IOS 16/8

Sorry for the v poor pics but could anyone ID this? A pair of these appeared to be feeding near the beach and coastal path. Presumably they are pipits of some kind? (spot the novice!)

    What kind of Sandpiper??

What a great picture, I wish I could do that! I would be interested to know what equipment you have to get a pic like that (sorry if this is not the thread to ask this question, I am a novice here, birding and cameras!!) Thanks.

    Waders for ID please.

Thanks Max, I am new to this game and I would also doubt my own id if challenged by another, I would automatically assume they have more experience than me.

    Waders for ID please.

What did the other guy say they were?...and where is your local patch out of interest. Thanks.

I have also found myself looking at the skies whilst at the Molineux this season!! I visit the Himley/Baggeridge area too though mainly during a run so not ideal to spot birds enroute (although I don't move that fast). I'm new to birding but really enjoy it, I've been visiting Upton Warren a...

Thanks guys, I have hit the manual focus button and disabled the flash but it still doesn't take.

    Minolta SLR and Opticron Scope

I am trying to use a Minolta 300si 35mm SLR with an Opticron IS60 scope. I have all the necessary bits including telephoto adapter and T mount and have connected up correctly (I think), but when I press the shutter button the flash ready indicator and the flash on indicator both glow red and the...

    Opticron IS60 & 40215 Telephoto Adapter

I recently purchased the IS60 scope, which I'm really happy with. The scope came with a number of other items including the 40215 Telephoto Adapter. Being a complete novice I don't really know what to do with said 40215. For a start it doesn't appear to fit the scope, is there an adapter for...

Red Kites near M40 in Oxfordshire?

On a drive down to London and back over the last few days I spotted a number (at least 8) of birds of prey over a distance of a few miles in the M40/Oxfordshire area. Sorry no pics but they clearly had the white patches on the underside of the wings and the forked tail. Am I right? are they...

    Where to spot a bittern

First Time scope buying, which one?

Hi, I too was in the same position. I am new to the hobby, I have some basic but decent binoculars but wanted to upgrade to a scope. After much internet surfing I decided to go for an Opticron. I bought a used Opticron IS60/45, including 25x eyepiece and stay on case for £111 off Ebay. Its...

    Where to spot a bittern

Where to spot a bittern? I am new to birding, and really became interested following a visit to Titchwell Marsh, Norfolk last October. An amazing place. They said they had bitterns breeding there for the first time in years. Where would be the best place and time of year to spot a bittern. I...
