    Tortoises in Romania

Could anyone help confirm the ID of these 2 tortoises seen in eastern Romania. I gather that there are 2 species, Spur-thighed and Heerman's. One was in sand dunes along the Black Sea coast and the other in a quarry about 25km inland. Many thanks

Yorkshire Bempton cliff climbers by Sam Leng

Hi Andy - hope all is well with you and Spurn. Thanks for the reply, I think you are right, that is dates from sometime in the 1920s. Most books have a publication date at the front, but there is none here, so I think that it may well have been a private publication. I have had a look at several...

Yorkshire Bempton cliff climbers by Sam Leng

I have a copy of the book by Sam Leng about the Bempton and Flamborough cliff climmers (climbers). There is no publication date in it and I am wondering if anyone knows?

    Birding Venezuela: Junglaven lodge

I have made 2 trips to Venezuela with Chris Sharpe as guide and leader and I can say with no reservation that you will not find a better leader. His knowledge of the birds together with his uncanny ability to find and coax them out is remarkable. If anyone is contemplating birding Venezuela you...

    Coto Donana Spain birding

I will be birding Coto Donana in just over a week and we are keen to get additional information about the birds there. Are there any recent updates on the following birds? Spanish Imperial Eagle, Great and Little Bustard, Black-shouldered Kite, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, and any other local birds...

    Birding in Venezuela

Birding Venezuela Hi Steve and everyone else, I put the trip together that went in November 2006 and Chris Sharpe was our guide there. I think that the caution Chris expressed about birding in the outskirts of a major city with expensive optics would be just as approriate in many parts of the...

    Eagle Owls in Yorkshire??

It is interesting to hear people refer to historic records of Eagle Owls in the UK. Where are these records and what credibility do they have? If Eagle Owl were indeed a past member of the British avifauna there surely would be archaeological or cave records. If there are any records where are...

    Eagle Owls in Yorkshire??

All are escapes or released birds There has been an escaped Eagle Owl in the Pocklington area of Yorkshire for at leat 4 months now and maybe over a year. At best all I can say is that it is doing a good job keeping the local rat population down, but on a more worrying note there is a pair of...

    Wheldrake Ings - Near York

The whole of the Lower Derwent valley is of international importance. It is such a shame that there is so much disagreement between the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and English Nature regarding the water levels in Summer. One seems to want it as a hay meadow, and the other for breeding grebes and...
