    American Robin likes peanuts

We have a robin that has been coming to our peanut feeder. The perches are too small for him but he tries to land and eventually can pick out a peanut or drop one to the ground where he flies down to eat it. Has anyone else ever observed a robin eating something other than the normal worms and...

Comment by 'Guest' in media 'One Less Starling'

Thank you for the nice comments. Over here the Starling is viewed by most people as a nuisance bird; however, my first thought was to run out and save it but then realized this is nature and the Kestrel had to eat too. I went out to pick up the remains when the Kestrel had flown off and all...

Beautiful scenery. We have some snow left on the ground in Central Missouri but by next week temperatures are supposed to be around 50 degrees. The red-winged blackbirds have returned to the feeders today so hopefully spring is around the corner for us.

bird call I.D. Central Missouri, USA

I heard the bird from my backyard in a small town in Central Missouri. It did not sound like the tufted titmouse as I have learned to identify their call. When I pulled up the Carolina Wren on the Cornell "All About Birds Sight" it was close to the sound I heard but I am still not sure because...

bird call I.D. Central Missouri, USA

Does anyone know what bird makes a sound that sounds like a 3 note series "chorie, chorie, chorie"? I did not see the bird and cannot find anything like it on the internet.

    White Winged Crossbill

Just wanted to post that on November 29, 2008, a white winged crossbill was eating at our feeders in Hallsville, MO. Two others were also reported a week later eating at a feeder about a block away. The picture I got of the bird shows it having very long claws. Just wondered if this is normal...
