Hi there, we're spending this weekend down at Challaborough Bay. Are there any birding sites near by? Thanks. :)

    Must see around Heacham?

Well we had a very nice few days in norfolk. We went to titchwell and saw some brent geese and a little tern (or 2?). The wind was whipping along the beach and it looked a bit like something out of lawrence of arabia! Some bloke in the carpark was a bit snotty when telling me he'd *heard* a...

    Must see around Heacham?

Blimey Penny that sounds a right shennanigans! Thanks for all that info though. Maybe we'll just go to Titchwell and a drive along the coast. I liked the look of the boardwalk at Sculthorpe, we're not 'proper' twitchers and amble along mostly. :) I enjoyed Strumpshaw Fen (is it?) and their...

    Must see around Heacham?

Thanks HD and Penny. Do you happen to know how much Holme Reserve & Sculthorpe Moor entry costs? (We're on a 'Sun Holiday' and are a bit short of cash. :)). I think 0630 might be a teensy bit too early for us tbh, but I know what you mean about seeing birds in 'odd' places before the crowds...

    Must see around Heacham?

Hi, we're staying at the caravan site in Heacham next Mon - Weds (7th-9th May) is there anything we shouldn't miss seeing or any sites we must visit? We'll take a drive up to Titchwell cos we're RSPB members, but don't want to dash about. Thanks. :)

    8x32s recommendations please.

Thanks everyone for some good recommends. I will look into them. Yes, I did mean chromatic abberation - it just trips off the tongue! LOL! I have a pair of Pentax 8x32 DCF WP on order from Amazon, but it now says they're 'out of stock/discontinued'. I don't think I can afford the new Pentax...

    8x32s recommendations please.

Hmm not sure about Nikons, the OH has a pair of 8x42 Monarchs and I don't like the way they handle bright contrast - oh can't think of the name for it, where you get a kind of halo-effect. Would kinda like waterproof too?

    Anyone been to Langford Lakes?

Ta for the info. Re: kids is it quieter during the week? I've only got the map off the net, how long are the paths to walk? Can you walk the fishermens paths? We're nearer Pewsey (above Salisbury Plain) so Blashford might be a bit far, but good to know about.

    8x32s recommendations please.

I really like the 'view' from my old Tasco 8x32s, however I'd like to treat myself to a new pair of bins. I don't wear glasses (yet!) but I do like lightweight bins with a reasonable close focus (for butterflies & dragonflies and such like). I think my budget is £200 max. Anyone got any...

Where do all your binoculars go?

Gave a pair of old Swifts to the RSPB at Minsmere. "Since it began in 1985, the RSPB's second-hand binocular scheme has provided almost 11,000 pieces of optical equipment to conservation and education projects in more than 90 countries." RSPB binoculars scheme - linky Get them out your...

    Bird hides reachable from Looe?

Hi folks, popping down to near East Looe at the weekend, are there any good birding spots with bird hides - good for a sit down and shelter in changeable weather! :D ps don't want to drive too far, 30/40 minutes maybe? Thanks.

    Explanation needed please.

Thanks Solent, yes the 8x30s are porros. I was slightly worried about the Monarchs because I did buy them from that shop in London (Microglobe - do you remember?) and they are obviously 'grey'! Oh and I'm glad they're not mine - it'd drive me mad!!! |:D| (But they are light and very bright...

Cheers for that. I particularly wondered because the 'effect' wasn't there when I looked through my cheap 2nd hand Tokina 8x30s. Do you mean literally some people can see it and others not?

    Explanation needed please.

Hi I just recently bought a pair of Nikon Monarch 8x42 for the other half and they are very pleased with them. As they're not mine I've not really peeped through them much. However I've just picked them up to look at some faraway birds (fieldfares I think), sitting in the tops of some...

    Nikon Customer Service

Not a 'specific' answer as such, but why don't you try ringing them and explaining the situation? You definately want to get to speak to someone (at least a supervisor) higher than customer service agent though! It is possible that their 'support' staff are judged by their throughput of 'piece'...

    Bins for Christmas

Yes thanks, I'd wondered about them, having seen numerous good things written about them. They're about 105g heavier, not as close focus and as large a field of view...but they're £80 cheaper. Has anyone looked through both?
