    Uk Peregrine Population Limit?

Eddie your nearly right ;-) It was mainly the heat last night why i couldnt sleep, then about 4 in the morning next door's damn Cockerels started, they are at it now as i'm writing this ! I love 99.9 % of most birds but them daft Cockerels come in the .1 % of birds i dont like. They belong in...

    Uk Peregrine Population Limit?

There will never be enough Peregrines to completly kill off the UK Pigeon population, thats ridiculous, the reason of course is that man will interfere before it ever gets close, and how will man interfere? Well because most are more fascinated (not to mention the downside of robbing for money)...

    Buzzards in Reigate

I only need to go out my front door and i guarantee i can find a Buzzard flying or perched (maybe even more than one) within an hour ! Just like everyone else i still get excited about seeing them though. Hello Flapper ;)

    Uk Peregrine Population Limit?

I wish there were more Peregrines (lots more) in the Lakes near where i live, maybe they would kill off some of these noisy *loody wood pigeons i have to listen to all day ;-)

    Buzzard Habits .....

Just a recap: I have been watching my local pair of Buzzards (amongst many in the area) all winter .......... Well last weekend i saw one of the pair in the same area as always, and all winter i had noted that it seemed to have one or two favourite perches, one of them being a small tree in the...

Any News About Lake District Ospreys

Yes i have also read reports on the local teletext news here in Cumbria that people have spotted 2 Ospreys in the Bassenthwaite area. Maybe i will get to see them this year ;-) I say that because a couple of years ago i lived about 3 miles away from where the nest was (for 6 months) but never...

    Hand Warmers

I have used one of them charcoal hand warmers, however i stopped because i didnt fancy the thing accidently opening and burning a hole right through my Paramo pocket ;-)

    Windstopper Gloves

Dont bother with windstopper, its rubbish .... too expensive, no proper insulation, and when it gets wet its useless and take ages to dry. Trust me. You are better off with just normal fleece which will provide more warmth and hand movement, and then if it gets really cold/windy or starts to...

    I love Icebreaker Clothing.

Yes Merino is good stuff, however for them that like synthetics, i have tried them all (e.g. Powerstretch etc) and you cannot beat the Patagonia capilene Expedition Weight Tops, i use mine as a baselayer and midlayer and they keep you warmer an hell of a lot longer than Powerstretch does...

    id required for uk raptor..thanks

My guess is its an Eagle (and if its a Golden Eagle then it would have to be an Immature because of the lighter areas across the wings) .... i suspect simply because most Common Buzzards (i have seen) have some pale area's on the breast and pale bands across the wing coverts. Where as the...

Resting Buzzard in Bedington Park, South London

You will also see the Buzzard more often in the lowland areas at the moment since the weather in the hilly area's is quite severe and still in the grip of winter (it has been here in the Lakes for the last couple of weeks), however i suspect that when spring does finally arrive many of them will...

    buzzards flocking

I also think i am right in saying (but dont quote me) that its round about the time of year when they start pairing off, possibly a reason why you saw so many together.

    Butties for a Kestrel

Harry, yes but the trouble with most books and short descriptions is that they all only list the most common things in the diet, most of which is not very abundant in the winter.

    Butties for a Kestrel

I would have thought that being winter they will eat anything, i watched a Kestrel only a couple of weeks back, it landed in the middle of the footpath i was walking on and not that far in front of me, it certainly didnt catch anything and was more than likely out for anything it could get.

    Hill Walkers 2006 List

These were all seen near where i live in Cumbria. Just on local walks without visiting any bird reserves or going out of my way, currently estimated as a circular radius of just 4 miles around where i live. [02/04/2006] Also i have tried to list them by the Months i first saw them and the...
