    Raptors in s/e PA, USA.

Taken last weekend in s/e PA. The first 2 photos are the same bird. The last photo I'm guess is a Red Shouldered. Thanks for any help.

    Phila hawk ID needed

A friend saw this hawk trapped inside a Little League batting cage last night. We "borrowed" one of our firetrucks (we're both volunteers) to light the area and use some poles to raise the netting to let the bird fly out. It was pitch dark without the firetruck lighting (which was approx. 200...

Konica Minolta to withdraw from Camera Market

There are 2 theories right now. 1st is that Sony could talk after April 1st. That is the official take over date from KM. Some say they (Sony) may not be legally allowed to talk now. The other is that Sony will not talk until summer 2006, a date that they said their first DSLR should be...

Konica Minolta to withdraw from Camera Market

Rumors are starting to buzz about a whole new slew of high end lenses to be offered this summer by KM/Sony :-O . Although it appears doubtful if there will be an announcement at PMA :-C . The dpreview.com folks are getting excited... Cheers. Pat :D

Konica Minolta to withdraw from Camera Market

This could be a very positive thing for us. While it does suck that KM is pulling out, Sony will bring lots and lots of new options to our tables. I hope PMA will answer our questions...C & N execs. may be quivering in their offices right now...My Maxxum 7D still works perfectly. |:P|

Anybody else shooting with the Maxxum 7D?

I guess you could send it back to Sigma to get re-chipped but that lens can be easy and cheaply replaced with higher quality lenses now anyway. I have a Sigma 400/5.6 that is approx. 15 years old (used with my Maxxum 5000) and it works with AF- albeit VERY slow and useless for my bird photos...

    Digital camera's

I'm using the 7D. AS is a huge advantage when shooting with long lenses and/or low light. The 5D has the same AS. :t: Pat

    camera dilemma!

I've been using the KM 7D for 7 months now. For bird photography the anti-shake is invaluable. When shooting in the shadows or low light with a slow shutter speed you will need to stabilize the camera either with a tripod, monopod, lens stabilization or KM's anti-shake. Lugging a tripod or...

Tamron 200-500mm vs. Sigma 50-500mm DG

Yes, but it is cheaper than buying the Sigma or Tamron PLUS the Minolta. I was shooting an older (15 years old) Sigma 400 APO. Very slow to focus so I must use manual focus for all birds and older technology. So the Minolta 80-200 APO G and the 2.0x teleconverter will still be a step up for...

Tamron 200-500mm vs. Sigma 50-500mm DG

Minolta's "G" lenses are highly respected. Its the best they make. Both the Minolta 80-200/2.8 APO G and the Minolta 70-200/2.8 APO G SSM are highly rated zoom lenses. There's not much question that they are superior. Pat

Tamron 200-500mm vs. Sigma 50-500mm DG

I just started using the Minolta 80-200/2.8 APO G lens. Instead of buying either Tamron or Sigma, I'm going to buy a 2.0x teleconverter. This will give me 400mm at f5.6 with superior glass. I do have a friend using the Bigma in the field with me. His lens has MAJOR lens creep. The lens is...

    7D exposures

While I am no expert, I'm always compensating due to the bright sky or dark shadows near the subject. That's what you've got to do. It's not just a 7D issue. I shoot with Nikon and Fuji users and we all must compensate. I just purchased a used 80-200/2.8 APO HS G. Used it for the first...
