Canon 1D II - AF issues?

Like many people, I am looking to upgrade to a 1D II now that the secondhand prices have dropped. However, I recently came across an article on Shortshooter.com which claimed that the 1D II has AF issues (which prompted the hurried release of the 1D IIN). Does anyone have any more...

Canon 1D II or IIN - Actuations?

I am trying to pick up a used 1D II or IIN. However, many 1D IIs on the market seem to have been used heavily by pros, even though cosmetically they look fine. The shop I am buying from say that they cannot read the actuations. If I buy one to appraise, is there a way I can find out?! Thanks...

Sigma 400mm prime or 135-400 zoom

I have used the Sigma 400mm f5.6 APO Macro on Canon 1N and it was excellent. What about adding an extension tube?

Best to import it yourself IMO. Mifsuds have a used one at the moment.

Arthur Morris 1D III test shots

I was just wondering if anyone had a chance to see the test shots in the Arthur Morris Bulletin before they were pulled & what was the verdict? They included some high ISO shots.

    Buying Canon in the USA

i could easerly get one from the USA as we own a house there but it could be more trouble than its worth so unless im going to save £1000 then i will buy here, more'so with the mk3 as its NEW and may well have problem's . Rob Great - sounds like a plan then! Re. the 1D III - are there...

Time for a new lens - EF500 IS or the 600 monster

I would go for the 500 - after a couple of hours hiking with the 500 my back starts to complain - not sure it could take any more weight! If you mainly shoot from hides/cars, have your own Sherpa (or co-operative wife), get the 600. :)

    Buying Canon in the USA

Thanks for the info everyone. I am not 100%, but I think the saving on a 1D III would be about £1k, so it's a tempter (plus, I have heard that there will be shortages in UK)! Re. the warranty, what about getting it fixed at a Canon centre and then claiming the cost on insurance - would that...

    5D, best lens quest...

_____________________ That is true, but that's why everyone should have insurance!! The Canon lenses are also built like tanks and faults are quite rare. Re the pricing, Fixation recently sold the Canon 500mm f4.5 for less than £1700. I know what I would rather have for that money! The Canon...

    5D vs 1D IIn (again...)

Sorry to go over old ground, but I am agonizing! These two bodies are around the same price at the moment. I have read most of the 5D vs 1DIIn threads, but they consider lots of factors that are not relevant to me (like weather sealing, full frame sensors for landscape etc). I'm upgrading...

    5D, best lens quest...

Re. the big primes, I would recommend having a look at the discontinued Canon 500mm f4.5 and the Canon 300mm f2.8 (for use with TCs). They can both be picked up for reasonable prices these days - better buys than third party lenses IMO. Mifsuds currently has the 500mm. J

    Buying Canon in the USA

I am planning to buy a 1D IIn or 1D III (if it arrives in time) in the USA. I was wondering if there were any pitfalls Re. differences in power supplies between UK and US. Thanks, John

How important is IS for birders?

I have been on the verge of buying a Canon 500mm f4 IS for a while; I am really interested in hearing from anyone with experience of using this and non-IS 500s - especially with TCs. From what I have read, IS really comes into its own when using a 500/600 with teleconverters. I imagine that...

    Opinions on Canon D60

I am thinking about trading up to a DSLR and I am considering 2 options: 1. Canon D60 (use my current Sigma 400mm f5.6 tele macro). 2. Sell up and buy Canon 10D and a 300 F4 L (to use with 1.4x TC I have already) or 400mm f5.6 L (my current Sigma lens is not compatible). From what I have...
