Norfolk mammals
Another one, same place exactly, today. The field between the road and the airfield here is bounding with bunnies, presumably the target prey ... maybe this spot really has got the makings of a possible stakeout -

Not encountered any for a while, but saw two more road casualty Polecats this weekend, one on A140 five miles south of Norwich, one on A148 at Spout Hills, Holt. Maybe they are commonly spotted dead but not much reported? -

Not RLB. There is a famously pale Common Buzzard seen often west of Wells so I think it could be that bird- richardm

Norfolk mammals
Don't know about always, but back in spring there were bunnies just along the A140 verge beside the airport and in the rough paddock just outside the fence. I've not been there early or late in recent months though... -

Been a few more dead Polecat sightings lately, including three or four at various sites along the A.140, A.148 and B.1149 between Norwich and the north coast. The latest (freshly squashed today and pictured here) was at Fakenham between the ring road and Morrisons. -

Re Saturday's dead Polecat in post #261, time of death was between when I drove by at 5.30pm and when I returned at 6.30pm. Apart from a blood drop on the nose and being dead, the animal was in good condition, having received no subsequent squashage and felt still warm. So it was out hunting in... -

Spotted this big male Polecat dead on the A148 at Bodham today. They are definitely hereabouts - two recent live sightings between Cley and Holt, another at Weybourne, road kills Snoring and more recently Edgefield. -

Three Caspian Gulls at Cley tonight, two adults and a sub-adult on Simmond's Scrape, plus at least 8 Yellow-legged Gulls of various ages. Also still two juvenile Curlew Sandpipers, 4 Green Sandpipers, and 3 Knot amongst the many Black-tailed Godwits and Ruffs. Noctule Bats were also seen this... -

The Glossy Ibis came in to join the gulls on Pat's Pool at 7.50pm, landing near a second-winter Russian Common Gull. Also about 10 Yellow-legged Gulls this evening, but just two Caspian Gulls (a juvenile and an adult). Also a couple of Green Sandpipers present, 30 Ruff and a couple of Water Rails. -

The Glossy Ibis still at Cley, roosting tonight on Pat's Pool. Also quite good numbers of gulls, including three juvenile/first-w Caspian Gulls on Simmond's Scrape, 8+ Yellow-legged Gulls and f-w Med Gull. Fewer waders, with two Common Sandpipers about the best, but other highlights included... -

:-) Just the two Caspian Gulls tonight (only one juvenile and the usual near-adult-type) but Sunday is often the worst gull day of the week... Also about a dozen Y-l Gulls, one hybrid gull, two Med Gulls (ad and juv), 6 Green Sandpipers, Greenshank etc. at Cley this evening. Oddly, several... -

Of course, you'll need to be a paid-up member of NWT to be in the hides in the evening - the day visitor permit is for 10am-5pm only. If the gulls are on Pats Pool they are viewable from the Reserve Centre car-park, but distantly (and in failing light). Tonight there were five Caspian Gulls... -

Just the four Caspian Gulls tonight (3 juveniles and one adult), and only about 10 Yellow-legged Gulls on the scrapes. Also Hobbies active at Cley, so few waders. -

Five Caspian Gulls at Cley this evening (four juvenile/1st-winters & one adult), as well as a few Yellow-l Gulls, a Wood Sandpiper and several Greenshanks. Also three Hobbies hunting over the reserve, and the Glossy Ibis remains in residence nearby at Salthouse. -

Although the Glossy Ibis was nearby at Salthouse all day, we did not see it come in to roost at Cley tonight. Fewer gulls at Cley again tonight, but still two Caspian Gulls (adult & sec-summer) and more than a dozen Yellow-legged Gulls amongst them, on Simmond's Scrape. Also 3 Med Gulls, 10 Green Sandpipers, Spoonbill and a Dutch (blue-flagged) limosa Black-tailed Godwit. -

Not sure what was seen at Cley during the day, but this evening's gulls again included 2 Caspian Gulls - a juvenile and a sec-summer (...but not yesterday's juv & sec-summer!). No sign of yesterday's adult wood Sandpiper, but two Hobbies hunting over the scrapes.
