    Bird Guide in the Dolomites

Just to record my grateful thanks to Maurizio Azzolini and friends, whom I joined for a day's birding in the Dolomites. We saw Tengmalm's Owl and Spotted Nutcracker (both lifers for me) and birds of the forest including Crested Tit and Crossbill. In the afternoon, Maurizio & I walked 40 minutes...

    Bird Guide in the Dolomites

Hi All I am looking for a bird guide for a couple of days in the Dolomites around Brunico in June. I have been in touch with Maurizio Sighele, who suggested Maurizio Azzolini. Unfortunately my emails to the morinellus address don't appear to have reached him. Can anyone suggest someone for that...

    RFI Skane

Looking at a holiday in Skane in late August, and have started to think about sites other than round Falsterbo. Can anyone point me in the direction of a reasonably reliable Nutcracker site in Skane?

    Roskilde

Made it to Selsoe in strong winds, which didn't deter one of the local White-tailed Eagles putting in a couple of appearances. Other notable sighting was of a full breeding-plumaged male Ruff, with a harem of some 20-odd females in attendance.

    Danube Cruise

I've had a good search through my hard drive, but can't find it. It may have been 2 PCs ago! I'll keep looking.

    Danube Cruise

Thanks for your responses. I wrote an article for a local bird periodical once on birds seen from ferries - bit of a cheat really, as I spent 3 years in Shetland, and the inter-island ferries threw up a lot of sightings.

    Danube Cruise

Hi I believe 164 was the full complement of passengers, and we sailed with 139. So there were spaces available. Most of the time we sat by ourselves on a table for four, mainly due to my antisocial outlook on life! I never counted the empty seats, so don't know whether there would have been some...

    Danube Cruise

Danube Cruise October 2016 (Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia & Austria) In June 2016 my wife and I decided on a river cruise to celebrate an important birthday for my wife (twenty-first, I think, again!). We chose a Danube cruise from Bucharest to Vienna, as likely to...

    Pau in January

Thanks so much for your help (and the PM) rosbifs. Hope to have a car for a couple of days one of which I would hope to get some birding in. So your info will be very useful for me. And thanks too for sorting out the info on Christmas Day. Hope you found time to enjoy it too.

RSPB may sell gifted land for housing!

I live in Sandbach, around 5 miles away from Somerford, a bucolic former estate village in the countryside between Holmes Chapel & Congleton, so unlikey to be a town site.. I am not familiar with the site, although reasonably familiar with the countryside around. Our local TV news showed a pair...

    Lesvos Car Hire

We are off to Lesvos for a fortnight in May, and have been offered a Suzuki Jimny softtop for a hire car. Would anyone care to comment on the security aspect of a softtop Jimny bearing in mind that it won't be all out birding, and will involve some tourist activities, which will involve leaving...

    Wallcreeper

Wallcreeper seen at Fort l'Ecluse on Friday 6th December 2013 at 1100 on the cliff face above the Lower Fort near the via ferrata. Seen again at 1300, where it gave excellent views on the walls of the Lower Fort. We then passed through the tunnel, emerging to find a Lammergeier being mobbed by a...
