    Speculative 10x30/32 question

Thanks for all the input and guidance! I ended up buy-in a pair of EL SV 10x32s from a great forum member, and I'm loving them after a day-and-a-half of use. The ease of eye placement and transparency are slightly lower than my SF 10x42s, but that's expected, and I find the compromise of...

Male downy woodpecker with yellow tinge

My understanding is that the variation is generally diet-related, but there are also genetic variants that can cause this. It’s called carotenism.

    *Really* large rainguards for binoculars?

Cory Suddarth of Suddarth Optical Repair in the USA has the ability to 3D print rainguards. He quoted me a price of about $25 USD to do this for my Nikon SEs. He’s a very pleasant guy to interact with, so perhaps worth an inquiry.

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

UVHD+'s seem to be going for $1600-2400, so less than that 😁

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

What do you prefer about it compared to the UVHD+? And how does it compare to the FL? Thanks!

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

I came to this same conclusion comparing the sfl 10x40 with the sf 10x42, so I kept the sf and sold the sfl. The 32ish class play a more utilitarian role in my life and work, so I'm not sure the same calculus applies for me there...

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

I would be very happy to find an affordable older Leica 10x32!

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

I don't have any firsthand experience with these smaller 10x binoculars...how easy are they to hold steady, and how is the ease of view? Do you prefer one to another?

    Speculative 10x30/32 question

My primary binoculars over the last 20 years have been Zeiss 10x42s, first FL and now SF, and I've been very happy with them for dedicated birding activities. I recently got a wonderful deal on a pair of EL 8x32s as part of a quest to have a smaller, lighter pair of bins that I can keep with me...

    Case for EL 8x32?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. The bag for the Zeiss Conquest 8x32 ended up working perfectly for me. I really like the fit, and the fact that the cover comes down over the body on 3 sides, helping to keep sheep manure off my ELs.

    Leica USA service question

I haven't seen the closeouts on the EL 12x50s. It's a bin I'd love to look through. If Leica can't do anything to improve the focusing on my UVHD+, I might consider trying something else, as I'm really fond of the extra reach that 12x provides.

    Leica USA service question

Thanks very much for your encouragement re Leica Service, and about the availability of deeper eyecups -- I think those would be very helpful, and I didn't realize they were readily available. I apologize if I bought this pair out from under you! But your thread wasn't the motivator...I've...

    Leica USA service question

I have a pair of Leica UVHD+ 12x50s I bought recently as an open-box unit from B&H.I like them a great deal, but as I've been using them, I'm more and more aware of a sticky point in the focus wheel. I'm not sure if it's actually getting worse, or if it just seems that way, but it's making them...

    Case for EL 8x32?

I like how Amazon lists the Conquest HD as an accessory.

    Case for EL 8x32?

That makes the Swarovski field bag look like a downright bargain!

    Case for EL 8x32?

Does anyone know of a lightweight case that would fit 8x32 ELs relatively snugly? I recently got a used pair without a case. I'd love something that could fit on my belt, for example. I'm often out working on the farm and want to have binoculars readily at hand, but they would be vulnerable to...

    8x32 advice?

I had owned a pair of Zeiss Victory FL 10x42 since shortly after they were released in 2004 (purchased at a local retailer in Massachusetts, USA). A couple of years ago I started to notice a cloudy film forming on the inside of the right objective. I meant to return it for warranty service to...

    8x32 advice?

I realize I'm asking a somewhat unreasonable question. A revised version might be "Is the SF sufficiently better optically to justify the larger size over the FL and UVHD?"

    8x32 advice?

I have a 10x42 SFL and like it ok -- Zeiss sent it to me as a replacement for a 10x42 FL that they chose not to repair. I would have preferred to have my old Victory FL back... The 8x30 SFL is something I've considered, but it's a bit more money that the others I'm looking at on the used market.

    8x32 advice?

I'm in northern New England (New Hampshire) in the USA. We have a couple of excellent optics retails in the region, but the models I am considering are only available on the used market, and so more challenging to test drive. Any suggestions you might have would be welcome!

    8x32 advice?

Thank you for both of these suggestions! I had heard that Nikon was no longer servicing SEs, so I thought it a lost cause. I will try to find the person you recommend. And I hadn't given sufficient weight to the possible degradation of an older pair of binoculars. Given my sometimes-steamy...

    8x32 advice?

Thank you for the lead about the SV 8x32 for sale. That's an intriguing option I hadn't sufficiently considered.

    8x32 advice?

I am a first-time poster after absorbing some of the wealth of information on BF, so please forgive me any breaches of protocol. I am shopping for a high-quality 8x32 pair of binoculars to replace my Nikon SEs that have succumbed to a seemingly fatal fungal incursion. I definitely want...
