    ABA Big Year 2018

Biggest Big Year of Someone Not Actually Doing a Big year? Wondering if my 617 ABA list for 2018 constitutes the biggest non-Big-Year Big Year list? 12th spot on eBird. My objective as an Australian working in Detroit (who had birded in the US a couple of times previously) most of the year...

Dickcissel? - Point Mouillee, Michigan, USA

EBird anomalies I have found a few anomalies in eBird like this. In some other countries with less-developed list sometimes very common birds don't even appear on lists.

Passerines from Point Pelee, Ontario, Canada

Thanks guys. I think it's a bit early for Orange-Crowned up here and there were other Cape May Warblers around so I think that is more likely. I was with Red-eyed for the Vireo but all the books indicate at least some redness in the eye where this looks very black-eyed. It was quite large...

    Rufous Owl in Cairns

Heading up to Cairns next week and notices several reports on eBird for Rufous Owl in Les Davies Park. Can anybody give more details on roosting site as I'd love to see this bird! Maybe PM instead of posting for the whole world to see?

What's that bird look like again

I think everyone above has pretty much summed it up. Doing some research before you go out so you have an idea of what you may see is very helpful but really you just need to persevere. You will fairly quickly start to learn and then it will get easier. You will become familiar with the...

    Melbourne and Phillip Island

Comedy Festival is fantactic - you'll have a scream...!! Penguins can be seen on the breakwater at St Kilda just a short tram ride from the City. The penguin parade, in my view, is highly overrated. If you do go to Philip Island you can often see penguins under the boardwalk at The Nobbies...

    Melbourne birding contacts

Good point Larry and actually I live in Altona, right on the corner of the swamp (apart from at the moment when I am living in Buenos Aires). There is a lot more to see at Truganina Swamp than just the Mount St Joseph pond too. The walk right round to the mouth of Laverton Creek covers some...

    Melbourne birding contacts

There are many great places to go. Western Treatment Plant at Werribee is the pick and is very close to Serendip. Be aware, however, that access is by key. Many local birders have permits/keys for this site. If you are on Facebook I suggest you join the "Victorian Birders" group where you...

Any other birders in Pattaya area

I just moved to Pattaya for 12 months with work and wondering if I'm the only person here interested in birds of the feathered variety? I've got an emminently suitable vehicle (Ford Ranger) that I really need to get dirty. If there is anyone out there who fancies helping search out and explore...
