    Considering a Partial Camera Upgrade - D500 w/ 200-500mm lens

I have the new 180-600 Z and it is truly a heck of a step up from the good old 200-500 VR in F mount. It has much faster AF on my Z7II, Z8 and Z9, is truly silent and the balance is fantastic with everything being internal (AF & zoom). I don't photograph birds but for what I do use it for, it is...

Wishes: a new scope like the AX Visio

Not my cup of tea but a new eyepiece module could easily facilitate that.

    Curio Whoopsie!

We love them, sooo tiny and easy to take anywhere and yet the views are comically bright and super sharp for such a small bino.

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

Could you imagine if some super high end and well known fine art photographers went back to film and the darkroom? Well sir, that is indeed what is happening in some cases because these talented people do not want anything to do with what will become of digital photography when AI computer art...

Do you own a CL Curio 7x21? Must have accessories

This stuff is truly amazing, easy to work with and does not leave a residue if removed. My only tip is to preheat it and the area you want to apply it too with a low setting on a heat gun or hair dryer. I have it strategically placed on all my cameras and lenses and it makes a remarkable...

    Curio Whoopsie!

Ah, nothing like walking into a neighborhood brow-beating session, reminds me of the time I was on assignment for a major magazine and walked into a coal mining bar to find a bottle rocket war going on. I had one hit the side pocket of my Carhartt's and it blew up next to my then iPhone 3...

ME 1.7x Converter - Image Quality

I have been happy with it thus far. Last night I had amazing views of Jupiter and Saturn at the full 120X in mediocre seeing. Cassini's division was visible in and out of the scintillation and Jupiter which is at opposition put on a heck of a show when at the zenith. Today we took the ATX95...

ME 1.7x Converter - Image Quality

I got my 1.7X for my ATX95 today, seems good so far. It has been cloudy, cool and rain/snow on and off so not the most contrast laden of scene's but I did manage to get a good view of a Lewis's Woodpecker before he flew off. Obviously the laws of optical physics apply to this combo so even...

    Swarovski Protective case

Exactly what I was looking for to use with my new ATX95.

Any customer review of new tsn-99?

I ordered it earlier today…;-) I feel like now I should post over in the Swarovski forum now that I have moved on from the Kowa Scope. I’ll do that once I get some more to contribute. Thanks Kowa fans, sorry it did not work out.

It is really good, we do have bortle class 2-3 skies at our home and I routinely take the big scope up to 11,000 feet to even darker sites. This professional astronomer is a friend and neighbor about a mile away, he has two observatories on his property, I am considering building one on mine...

It's possible I was seeing them then, I have been out of astro for a few years while doing overseas assignments and a two year long house remodel. Now that is over, I am back to looking skyward and bird-ward. As for a spotter being a good astro scope, I feel pretty good about mine filling that...

Any customer review of new tsn-99?

I'm pretty happy with it, it's basically what I saw in the 85 in Scotland that got this whole ball rolling, albeit with a brighter image. What is crazy though is how good that Vortex Razor 27-60x85 is that I am replacing with the 95, textbook SA, stig and coma correction. It just suffers from...

Any customer review of new tsn-99?

To be honest, it might have just been Titan, at 70X neither Saturn or it's moons are very big. Jupiter on the other hand was simply spectacular last night, made my wife feel instantly better about the money we paid for the ATX95.

Got my ATX95 today, It's looking good so far. I did my indoor star test and it is almost perfect in terms of SA, just a bit less rings on the outside focus. There might be an almost undetectable trace of coma and the same for astigmatism but other than that, it's a much better corrected scope...

    Considering a Partial Camera Upgrade - D500 w/ 200-500mm lens

Canon said that because they are having a hard time with the transition. Maybe DSLRs are not obsolete in broad terms and believe me, I was not hip on mirrorless back when just Sony was doing it, but I shoot for a living (high end commercial and fine art) and make hundreds of thousands of images...

    Considering a Partial Camera Upgrade - D500 w/ 200-500mm lens

A Z7II and the new 180-600 would run only a bit more than the original-when-new price of both the D500 and 200-500, maybe less when one considers inflation. The Z8 is still fairly new and is priced pretty high at around $4K, I get that. Mirrorless systems are now mature enough and filled in...

    Considering a Partial Camera Upgrade - D500 w/ 200-500mm lens

I have been using Nikon in my job as a photographer since 1987 and I can tell you from vast experience that it is by no means hype. Furthermore, you do realize that when you kick the Z7II, Z8 and Z9 into 1.5X crop mode, it is giving you exactly the same resolution as the APSC-only sized sensor...

    Considering a Partial Camera Upgrade - D500 w/ 200-500mm lens

Why be like a million other avian image makers in getting as close as you can? Try for more artistic shots. The best wildlife photographs are not tight mug shots of birds and animals but ones that tell a story about the subject and its surroundings. Look at the work of Frans Lanting, Jim...

I took the 99A out last night and let it cool down a good 45 minutes before using it. I looked at Saturn with a bit above average seeing and it looked really quite clean at 70X easily revealing the dimmer moons, the "handles" on the rings and the ring shadow across the disk. A peek at Altair in...

Where to see and possibly photograph Rosy finches?

There is a high elevation feeding site at the top of Sam's Knob in Snowmass Ski area. It is currently only lift served but a future expansion looks to possibly be installing a gondola which would allow for foot traffic. I have seen Rosy's there for years, it's a great place to see them.

Thanks for this. I just ordered the ATX95 so I will do a test and a direct comparison on Tuesday. I do know how good bino viewing can be, I do it with my 16” dob for lunar, planets and brighter star clusters. As for checking one out in person, the closest place to try one would be about 4...

Thanks and your welcome. Who knew that finding a good sample of a $3,000 to $5,000 spotting scope would be like trying to find a Resplendent Quetzal in Flint Michigan.

Any customer review of new tsn-99?

I tried like crazy last night to get stable enough air either aloft or on the ground to make it work to 100’+ feet but no dice, our seeing is mediocre even near the zenith and on the ground high temps right now are around 45 with lows at 15. I could try it pre-dawn after leaving the scope out...
