Quite a few eyes on the sky, I guess. Now that I think about it.... I am curious what the relative number of somewhat active birders is by Canton.

    Switzerland 2024

I was in France last weekend.... Never seen so many Golden Orioles! I'd say between 20 and 30 around our property alone. Lots if Nightingales too. Both still missing on my CH list.

    Garden / Yard List 2024

It was visible here in the Allier a bit after midnight. Nothing as spectaculair as what was seen further north, but regardless much to the delight of my French in-laws.

    Garden / Yard List 2024

I was very lucky, early this evening. My wife and me were sitting outside after quite an exhausting weekend. I noticed two swallow like shapes high up, definitely too far away to identify without bins. I got up to grab them from the house, mentioning to my wife that the chances would be low...

    Garden / Yard List 2024

Being horribly behind with something (or, occasionally, many things) seems to be the story of my life. And, since we’re actually of to France for a couple of days next week, I figured I ought to maybe write the update for the short holiday we had at our property over Easter. We arrived at our...

    Switzerland 2024

Ah, that's another species I didn't get yet for my Swiss list this year. I did get a surprising addition this morning though. A rather light coloured Wryneck on a somewhat freshly cut lawn on campus at ETH this morning. I tried to check on Ornitho.ch if there are more observations in the Zurich...

    Switzerland 2024

I hadn't seen a Willow Warbler in Switzerland this year, and having a bit of spare time before going into work this morning, I figured I could spend some time around the Kaferberg looking for one. I used my bins and Merlin; and must have seen 50+ Chiffchaffs before seeing a bird that looked...

    Garden / Yard List 2024

Back in Zurich after basically being out of town for two weeks. Also, an almost unique combination of nice weather and no kids at home due to holidays and other arrangements. So, after work and ticking two items of the honey-do-list (careful not to reduce it too much, otherwise new jobs seems to...

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

Still around in the Netherlands, managed to getup to the Lauwersmeer yesterday. I didn't have all the time that I would have like to spend there, but managed a couple of new ticks. Green-winged Teal, Pied Avocet and what I was most stoked about were some Black-winged Stilt. On of the Stilts was...

    Garden / Yard List 2024

I am actually in Germany for a couple of days, driving back to Zürich this afternoon (to leave to NL tomorrow  ). Just had the wife on the phone... She complained that after 27 degrees Celsius last Sunday, snow is coming down currently.

Can someone help me identify these birds?

The Northern Shoveler is clear. For the others, it might help to let us know where and when the photos were made.
