    Winter/Summer Feed

    Small feeder in CO that attracts Chickadees, Finch, Nuthatch, Bluebird, Sparrow and other smallish house birds with shelled sunflower seeds and "patio blend" during the summer. It's a busy feeder. Should I change seeds/feed for the upcoming winter? I might add a suet feeder?

    Pentax uses standard American 1.25" telescopic eyepieces. Commercial digiscopic adapters are available. I do not digiscope.

    I've enjoyed the Pentax PF-65EDAII 65mm Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing, Eyepiece Required). Clear, light, no false colors and good for travel. Uses 1.25" telescopic eyepieces, fixed or zoom. I've seen them on sale occassionally for $ 449 (US). Great for wildlife, birds, travel and astronomy.

    Alaska Birding and Equipment Suggestions

    Thanks for the advice. My bags are getting heavier, plus a tripod. Going with family with 8x and 10x binos. My Pentax 65 uses 1.25" astronomy eyepieces. What magnification do you think is best? 20? 40? With photo gear and clothes I might need a porter.

    I know many of you buy/sell/trade binos regularly and marking would be inappropriate. I also know that if binos are lost/misplaced/stolen the chance of seeing them again is almost nil. Other than a luggage tag on a case or strap, does anyone mark, label or engrave for identification purposes...

    Cooper's Hawks Nesting

    Well now that I've acquired some binoculars for me and wife, we spotted a pair of Cooper's Hawks nesting in a tree near the house in Englewood, CO. New to birding. These are really beautiful birds and calling to each other. Haven't seen any young ones yet? Maybe soon.

    First time binocular buyer, getting myself all tied up in knots

    I just did this purchase dance myself. I'm not an expert, but have been pleased with the GPO Spectra 8x32 purchased from Costco for $329. The 8x42 are $359. Also, Cabelas has the Vortex Viper 10x42, 2017 Model, though of new manufacture for $299.

    With the caveats from about using a spotter as a telescope, I've had great luck with the Pentax. It's small, light weatherproof, ED, virtually apochromatic, easy to focus. You can use standard 1.25" telescopic eyepieces, standard or zoom. They go on sale for around $449 w/o an eyepiece. Good...

    Looking for Binocular recommendations in the $300-$500 range.

    Any opinion on Leupold Bx-4 8x32? They are $100 off through 4/3/2023? So now looking at Leupold, Optricron Verano and GPO Passion or Spectra. I suspect they are all pretty similar for wildlife /birds.Leupold and Opticron are made in Japan. Opticron are tougher to find.
