Opinions of Wings or Tropical Birding Tours?

Hi, Igonz: I know I must have asked you for this guide's name, but like a dolt, I went and lost it. Would you mind sending it to me again? Many thanks. --LBC

Philippines mid February to mid March 2024

I'm heading to Manila for a wedding early Feb. I want to get a private guide for Palawan and maybe Cebu. Would be great to do a day trip or two on Luzon. Where are you thinking of going?

    October Big Day

I live in Seattle and find Seattle Birds Connect (previously Seattle Audubon) trips to be generally closed to the public. Other Audubons are more likely to welcome visitors and other nonmembers. Nearby chapters include Eastside and Seward Park. Many more here: Audubon Centers in Washington State

    Hello from the Philippines

Paltik, hello: My family lives in the Philippines (Manila, La Union, and TBD since he just moved out of northern Palawan). Next time I go, I'll look you up! I'm especially interested in birding Palawan and, of course, Cebu.

    Northern Ecuador August 2024

Igonz1088, as you know, I'm traveling this fall, but this info is terrific for planning my trip. I would love a detailed itinerary if you don't mind sharing. Thanks.

How long to stay in Mindo, Ecuador

Usually, I like to ID birds on my own. But after taking a gander at Ridgely and Greenfield, I'm thinking a guide would be helpful. Especially because I don't want to drive and I'm traveling solo. Maybe I'll try a few places on my own, though.

How long to stay in Mindo, Ecuador

Ah, good to know! I was thinking the jungle would be too dense to actually see much except at feeders. I'd like to get into the bosque not watch feeders the whole time.

Mindo: Birding the West Slope of Ecuador

Nelson is not available but says his friend is. If Nelson says his friend is good, I'm guessing I can bank on that? Your opinion?

How long to stay in Mindo, Ecuador

Dortmundbirder: I'm traveling solo Sept. or Oct. and will study your itineraries in detail. I'm an avid longtime but NOT a "power birder." Meaning I want to spend almost all my time birding, but I won't stick a fork in my eye if I don't check off every species or bag 40 spp./day. I don't have...

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

Arie: Responded to you. My trip is shaping up to be approximately the same dates as yours. I'm not shooting, but I also like spend time sitting in one spot or doing short hikes not just species-bagging. Also, I'm independent, so we might travel compatibly.

    Galapagos in August

Fabulous info! Thank you. This sounds more like my kind of travel. Yeah, the markup on flight and accommodations to the Galápagos is outrageous even by American standards. The primary purposes of the trip are birding and visiting a friend in Cuenca, but I don't want to miss out on snorkeling in...

    Hi from the PNW

Baldies can be more populous at certain times of year in W. Washington in certain places and seasonally (and by location) more scarce. For example, from the Urban Raptor conservancy: "August-October—Most eagles leave to feast on spawned-out salmon carcasses along northern rivers" (Bald Eagle |...

    Galapagos in August

This sounds like a good idea. As of the end of March 2023, the fall Galápagos cruises are mysteriously empty. And my Spanish teacher, who lives in Quito, showed me a bunch of decent-looking (not luxury) hotels that are <US$30 a night. I'm not missing a digit on that. Flying into Quito and taking...

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

Yah, I'm heading to Ecuador, too. Thanks for confirming that about the Amazon. I was thinking of spending much more time on the East Slope, boat in the Galápagos, going down to Cuenca. (And I have also had foot surgeries. Happy healing to your gf. It gets a lot better.)

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

I'm thinking about Ecuador in November also. I'm interested in (in order, kinda): birds, plants, snorkeling, public gardens, "real" Ecuador (not tourist traps). I'm birding not shooting, but I'm independent and totally cool with looking at birds or wandering off a short way on my own if you're...

Better Case for Zeiss Conquest 10x42 Binocs?

Thanks. I'll look at them. I was wondering about harness cases. Do you have any that are good for heat? I'm going to Ecuador and wondering if a harness case wouldn't be a good idea. I want to carry my binocs but not advertise I have a cool US$1K on my chest.

Better Case for Zeiss Conquest 10x42 Binocs?

Adore my new Conquests! For a cool USD$thou, though, I'd expect a better case. The OEM case is unpadded cordura nylon. Can anyone recommend a quality, protective case that fits the Conquest 10x42s? Thanks. 🙏🏼
