A Zeiss Conquest HD on steroids.

That’s something I didn’t take into consideration and thought the more eye relief the better. My Opticron Oregon 8x42’s have 22mm of eye relief, which i thought was a good thing. I’m going to turn the eye cups down a notch to see if it increases the FOV. By the way, I noticed that when I...

A Zeiss Conquest HD on steroids.

I received the free extended eyecups from Zeiss, which made eye placement easy; however, they seemed to lose some of FOV when using the extended eye cups. I ended up returning the Conquest 8x32’s.

Great! Hopefully, you’ll find a good pair that suits you.

    New binos by mid June.

If you have time to look at the Opticron Auroras, I’m interested to know what you think. Have a safe trip and good luck!

    New binos by mid June.

B&H has a large selection of binoculars, and there’s nothing like being able to compare them in person. I’ve ordered and returned several pairs of 8x and 10x binoculars ranging in price from $190-$1000, and the only ones I kept were the Opticron Oregon 8x42’s. I also compared several pairs at...

    New binos by mid June.

We were at Costco a few weeks ago and were told the extended guarantee was no longer valid for purchases with the Costco Citibank Visa. I’d double check with Citibank. I really liked the Kowa BD II 8x42’s and if it wasn’t for my Opticron Oregon 8x42’s, I would have bought them.

Killer whales in Strait of Gibraltar

I was in Gibraltar over 25 years ago but wasn’t birding back then. However, we got up close to the Barbary Macaques. RTVE from Spain reported Killer Whales attacking fishing boats. When we were in Seward, Alaska, we went out fishing on 25 foot StarCraft boats and saw Killer Whales about 1,000...

Binocular Comparison: Nikon Prostaff ATB 8x25 reverse porro vs. Hawke Endurance ED 8x25

If you return the binoculars, they'll be sold as used by Amazon Warehouse. I just returned pairs of Burris Signature HD 10x42 and Opticron Oregon LE 8x25 binoculars. The Opticrons were supposed to be new but were actually used and probably returned by someone else. Returns for some may end up...

    New Binocular Bargains Thread

I’ve ordered several times from Optics Planet with only one screw up ion their part and had to send the item back for an exchange for the actual item I ordered. Were you able to register the binoculars for the manufacture’s warranty?

    New Binocular Bargains Thread

They must be customer returns with issues being sold as new. When I called to find out the status of my order, the customer service representative said that the order was being processed and shipped from a retail store. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    New Binocular Bargains Thread

Anyone ever try to order the Meopta-made Euro Instinct binoculars from Bass Pro/Cabelas? Every now then they appear on their website as being in stock. Three times I’ve placed orders for pairs of 8x32 and 10x32 binoculars and received emails with order confirmation numbers and being-processed...

    New Binocular Bargains Thread

I thought about ordering from DVOR, but their store-credit only return policy dissuaded me. Sometimes the Optics Planet prices were better than their DVOR offshoot website. I also wondered if the warranty would be valid if purchased from DVOR after calling a manufacturer that never heard of DVOR.

    SFL vs. Aurora...

My inexpensive Opticron Oregon 8x42’s are pretty well made and clear and bright, which is surprising for sub $200, made PRC binoculars. The Savanna 6x30 Porro prisms not so much and the focus wheel isn’t as smooth. I’ll be buying 1k-priced binoculars down the road, and they might be a pair...

    SFL vs. Aurora...

It’s nice to get an opinion from a very experienced optics owner from this side of the pond. Maybe Opticron is listening and an 8x32 Aurora might be in the works.

    SFL vs. Aurora...

I’ve been waiting for your follow-up post on the Aurora. You’ve confirmed Ratal’s previous posts regarding these binoculars. Cheers!

    Bridge Camera Photography Showcase

I’m going to have to look for a sturdy tripod because my Amazon brand isn’t very stable. From what I’ve read, it appears that the Fujifilm S1 is their best bridge camera. Did you consider this model? Cheers!

    Bridge Camera Photography Showcase

I’ve owned three Fujifilm cameras and have had pretty good luck with them, but they made so many bridge cameras is hard to choose a used one. The S9950w is the highest used model I’ve seen for sale and might offer the most features. Do you use a tripod for the highest zoom shots? Cheers!

    Bridge Camera Photography Showcase

I appreciate your sharing your experience using bridge cameras. Since I'm fairly new to birding, a good bridge camera is going to help me identify birds if I have any doubts. I've read positive comments and reviews on the Canon Powershot and Nikon Coolpix cameras, and they seem to be a little...

    Bridge Camera Photography Showcase

Your Fujifilm camera takes some nice photos. I have a Fujifilm Finepix D700 10x 7.1 megapixel camera and after seeing your photos, I’m thinking about getting another Finepix with a more powerful zoom lens. Thanks for posting your photos!

    Asking for help: Meopta Meostar B1 10 X 42 vs Opticron Aurora BGA VHD 10 x 42

It sounds like the Aurora has pretty good CA control. Is there anything else that stood out from the Aurora, and why do you prefer the SFL over the it? Cheers!

    Ocular Lens Size

I’ve tried quite a few binoculars priced between $400-1000 in my quest for a new pair of roof prism binoculars for birding. I’ve settled on the Opticron Oregon 8x42’s because as you said “I’m able to just pick them up and use without thinking about them.” I purchased a pair of Zeiss Conquest...

    Ocular Lens Size

I prefer the view of 8x42 binoculars Zeiss will send you extended eye cups at no charge. Maybe that might be worth trying.

I’ve seen it discounted at authorized Zeiss retailers online.
