Autofocus fail for distant subjects. 7D2+5D3

Whilst on this subject. My Mk2 won't shoot when the target isn't in focus (eg a distant dot). Seem to recall a setting for this but can't find it anywhere! It almost cost me a distant Cattle Egret a couple of weeks ago. Anyone know how to disable this feature? Cheers Dave

    Algarve Coast

My advice would be to book Simon for a day (or half) and leave the girlfriend on the beach. That's what we did a few years ago & pretty well cleaned up :t: Dave

I have the 7D mk1 & 400 & 5.6 set up. If the light is good it's a great combo. The lens I brought 11 years ago and it's still going strong. you could pick up both for less than a grand 2nd hand Dave

    Mallorca 2016

This looks like the same bird we had here back in August. We put it down as a weird LE or a hybrid given the number seen in mainland Spain over the years. Cheers Dave

Marbled Duck I noticed from my photos that one of the Marbled Teal we had at Tucan Marsh had a colour/plastic ring. Are these escapes or is there a ringing programme on the island (or elsewhere)? See attached photo. Cheers Dave

    Mallorca 2016

We were staying just past the 3km marker on the Ma-10 outside Pollenca. If you look up to your left as you travel away from Pollenca there are three obvious peaks. The nearest/lowest one is where we walked to. Below it is a small rounded plateaux (this is where two of the calling Wrynecks...

    Mallorca 2016

I'm not sure which species they are, but did take some photos. They didn't seem particularly nervous of us, so I guess they may be captive. We saw three, including a well grown youngster. My mate thinks they were fallow, spotted on the hindneck area. Will post a photo upon my return to my pc...

Our last full day on the island, back home to blighty tomorrow. We took an early morning walk up towards the peak behind our villa, didn't quite make it to the top, but plenty of birds on small plateu below it (also some deer, are these wild?). Species seen: 2 Stone Curlew 3 calling Wryneck...

    Mallorca 2016

We stayed in Cala d'Or for a few days last week, didn't see much, Audouins etc. Salobrar de Campos is worth a visit (about 40 min drive) for Flamingos & many waders. You should mop up on most Herons, Swamp-hens etc at s'Albufera, but it's quite a hike from the road to the centre. Tucan Marsh...

    Mallorca 2016

This morning we started off at Albufereta from the viewing tower. Two GW Egrets and numerous Purple & Night Herons. Also present the weird grey Little Egret (had it the other day but forgot to mention). Then onto Tucan Marsh, where the water has dropped further. Three Little Stints, Curlew...

    Mallorca 2016

We had a flock of 32 go over this morning as we were dragging the kids up Puig De Maria. Also a few Alpine & Pallid Swifts at the summit, as well as a Pied Fly on the ascent. Highlight was a stunning Two-tailed Pasha perched on a sign near the monastery as well as a few Swallow-tails. Dave

No sign when we popped in this morning, just one Yellow Wag as well as the usual suspects. Birder from Palma had been there a couple of hours also with no sign. Cheers Dave

    Black Swan, Walton-on-Thames

Hi Matt, I had the same bird (by The Anglers) about a week ago. It's the first one I've had here for a couple of years, although they were more regular prior to this bird. Cheers Dave

    Barfold Copse

I remember trying to visit BC many years ago when I were a lad (that's a bloody long time ago). It was a small woodland reserve down Haslemere way I think. I presume it no longer exists (as a reserve)? Dave

On the opposite side of the road is a Donkey stables with a footpath that leads down to Cala Murta. Keeping to...
