    My first pair, help please.

If you stretch your budget a bit you could go for the nikon hgl 10x25. Smaller objectives but definitely light and good optics. The exit pupil and the focuser on the front of the bino might not be for everyone though.

Poll: will you buy Swarovski AX Visio?

The first one looks pretty sharp actually.

Can a 25mm binocular resolve sky/cloud detail well?

I think I'm just going to give pocket binos another shot and temper my expectations and specifically my use-case usage. Sometimes when I'm at the pier it would be helpful to read the signage of incoming-docking boats. I will leave the cloud watching for the larger instruments I guess. Yes, I...

Can a 25mm binocular resolve sky/cloud detail well?

Question related to this post. Are there any decent reverse porros from yesteryear still available through used means? I'm not familiar with some of the older models. I had the nikon mikron 6x15 for a while which I liked. Isnt there an older 25mm version or one similar to it from a different...

Can a 25mm binocular resolve sky/cloud detail well?

Thanks for all the interesting replies. Quick clarification. I wrote in my original post "sunset" however I meant sunrise. That said, I do a lot more viewing of sunsets. With the morning sunrise, I tend to look at the sun directly via filters from Thousand Oaks Optical on my 10x40 habicht. It...

Can a 25mm binocular resolve sky/cloud detail well?

A bit of an odd question, since it's mostly birders here. But I'm more of a nature-scenic viewer. I love looking at landscapes or zooming in on flowers. I'm realizing part of my (personal) disappointment with pocket binoculars in the 20-21mm range is that they can't resolve cloud detail well. I...

Binocular Comparison: Nikon Prostaff ATB 8x25 reverse porro vs. Hawke Endurance ED 8x25

So to be clear, you just fold the interior inward-facing flap of the eyeguard outward out over the rim of the eyeguard and that reveals more eyespace?

Monoculars - anyone use these things ?

One of the biggest factors for me with a spotting scope is the focuser. The need to or need not to fidget with the device makes a huge difference in one's ability to scan and watch. In that regard, a small kowa tsn straight-through is really nice to use. Turning the focuser with a finger is an...

Binocular Comparison: Nikon Prostaff ATB 8x25 reverse porro vs. Hawke Endurance ED 8x25

An alternative I've been looking at -- that no one seems to be talking about -- is the "Vixen 8x25 hoop". Priced in the $250-$300 range. Problem is that it's single hinge rather than double and importing fees add up. That said, it seems like it's a good competitor to the Maven 7x28 (also single...

Appreciate Binocular Advice for Nonprofit Outdoor & Nature Program

Also one more thing. You said the main users of these will be youths. 42mm bins might be too big. I would consider something smaller albeit 32mm roofs are sometimes known for having finicky eye placement.

Appreciate Binocular Advice for Nonprofit Outdoor & Nature Program

Maybe Oberwerk would give you a bulk discount from $350 to your stated limit of $275. Their 8x42 ed series are well liked by many. https://oberwerk.com/product/oberwerk-sport-ed-series/ I would choose better binoculars for your program than budget ones because you want the views to be...

Binocular Comparison: Nikon Prostaff ATB 8x25 reverse porro vs. Hawke Endurance ED 8x25

I'm kind of similarly deciding on a budget small binocular. I keep cycling back between trying vortex vanquish 8x26 vs Hawke 8x25 ED vs vortex bantam 6.5x32. The reverse porros seem like the most fun of the bunch but the hawkes are probably more compact. Looking forward to reading replies to...

In Search of the Perfect Compact Binoculars for Active Woods Adventures

I'm curious about the Maven B7 as well but I find the price prohibitive. Their description says its's the same glass as their $525 B3 binoculars which are 30mm. In other words, you're getting less glass/aperture yet the compacts cost more. I tried the zeiss VP pockets recently quickly at a...

    APM MS-6x30

I've been eyeing both of these APM binoculars myself for a small grab and go bino. According to pictures I have seen these are really compact. There's also the Hinode 6x30 B+ binoculars from Japan. https://bino.hinode-opt.jp/item/6x30-bplus.html/...

    NL >=50 mm versions?

I was wondering about this. IF is obviously in their favor and apparently the nikons have a great depth of field. However I was thinking Swaro customer support is probably better and CF has more utility. You can probably still take the big NLs for scenic viewing somewhere. Also the swaros will...

    zeiss warranty

Not sure how well the warranty info is known so I wanted to share. I reached out to Zeiss about a warranty question and they said non-US purchases are 10 years warranty and and US purchases are transferable limited lifetime warranty. Which seems to be the same as Swarovski. Here's the full text...

APM 6.5x32 APO - Some first impressions

Nice catch. On the 8x IF it says "apo" and 6.5x IF it says "apo+". I think the apo+ are supposed to the moonstar variant? Or else it's just a liberal use of terms...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

I can confirm that the focuser of the 10x40 GA smoothens with time. When I first got it it was so stiff. Felt like I was trying to roll the threads of a panzer tank myself. Much much better now. Not perfect but good enough. Funny enough it recently occurred to me that 7x might make a great...

    First Love Rekindled

Sorry I didn't follow the costs bit -- the repair was free or it wasn't? Did they have a lifetime warranty when you bought them? Just curious. And congratulations and reconnecting with an item you truly enjoy.
