    Fully black bird with half-moon white under the wing in Baraboo WI on 1/4/2022

    To be clear, I saw the bird in the tree and watched it for about 2 minutes and it wasn't until I reviewed all of my photos that I realized I got the picture of the unusual markings on the underside of the bird. I saw it flying over my head, noticed the weird markings and it's pretty large size...

    I don't know. Trying to figure that out... I have always loved birds and animals but am not what you would call a "birder" so my knowledge is very limited..

    Spotted in Baraboo WI

    Absolutely No red at all! It is completely black with only the white half-moon shape under the wings.... This is the 2nd time I have seen it. The last time was probably 3 years ago

    This was a very large bird the size of a hawk but was more woodpecker like behavior! There was no red at all! It was super unique! Unfortunately it is not the best pictures but will at least give you a good idea of what it might be... Thank you in advance for your patience with me!
