    Collared Doves UK and Fuerteventura

Having just spent the weekend in Benidorm many if not nearly all of the collared doves here were notably darker that I saw. The black collars also seemed wider to me. I have no photos as birding was not on the agenda sadly. Just an observation

Getting to grips with winter gull and tern ID

Thank you, Yes that does make sense. As for the third bird, my first thought was grebe (possibly slavonian) but I havent seen one before and wasn't sure. Unfortunately it was a little way out in swell and by the time I took that photo it vanished and unfortunately I couldn't re-locate it...

My new lifer list - advice please and musings!

I keep my list in paper form. Front of book is year lists and at back I have life list. Also at back I have 'Appendices' for birds not included in life or year lists. Such as escapees, hybrids, interesting morphs (I.e. albino, leusotic forms etc), heard only birds and others. These lists follow...

    Listing sub species

For those who list sub species on their year/life lists. How do you do it? For example on my list I have specified Dark-bellied Brent Goose and Russian White-Fronted Goose which is fine as when I see their counterparts I can add them too. I come unstuck when it comes to harder to ID sub...

    Black-throated Diver?

Hi, Diver help please. Having not taken my main camera with me I was reduced to phone camera through bins as the light was fading. Saw this dark Diver, which if zoomed in can also make out a dark neck patch too. Fully dark head with no white, back appeared dark with slight pale edges to...

    Keeping Lists

I fear this is a topic somewhat fraught with different opinions and why not, everybody keeps different kinds of lists. I have kept a casual bird list over the last few years and want to organize it into lists for separate years and an overall life list of every bird observed to date. Reading...

White tailed eagle or just a buzzard?

This afternoon i visited Frampton Marshes. A White Tailed Eagle was spotted there in the morning but hadnt been seen since. Just as i was leaving i spotted this really high in the sky (hence the terrible photo). Given its distance i thought it looked bigger than a Buzzard but perhaps not vastly...

Another unidentifed out at sea, north Norfolk

I'm pretty confident I have got this down to a diver or grebe but i have been through my book several times and cant really find a match. I first though black throated diver but their throats in winter do not have the black patch?
