    A noob's view from a Swarovski NL Pure 12x42 and a Kowa Genisis 8.5x44.

I really haven't had a problem with CA. The only time I can invoke it is if I am wearing glasses (mine have some inherent CA off dead centre) and I have my eye in the wrong position. Even then it only starts well off centre. A quick move and it's gone for all intents and purposes.

    A noob's view from a Swarovski NL Pure 12x42 and a Kowa Genisis 8.5x44.

I have to say I haven't had anything of those problems. Focus fast, even and accurate. Hinge suitably stiff. Eye cups no problem. Does sound like OP has a bit of a lemon. No issues with CA either and that is something I am sensitive to.

    Perhaps another game changer

I have to say that I disagree with that statement. It took me quite a while to really appreciate just how good my Curio 7x21 is. It was not love at first sight. (Of course, one might not view the Curio as a first rate optical instrument in which case my argument falls away. However i think it is.).

I think that is unlikely. I would be amazed if they moved their premium binoculars (certainly NL and EL and maybe the whole existing range) to China. More likely they would develop a range of lower cost products made in China whilst keeping the top of the range manufacturing in Absam. It is an...

Companion pair to NL pure 12x42

My preferred pairing. Sometimes I take the Habicht 8x30 because they are exceptionally pleasant to use and lightweight - I use them with glasses quite happily with the eyecups turned down but I can't really recommend them for glasses wearers - definitely try before you buy.

Not that I can see. But they do mention in a couple of places that it is rugged and can cope with everyday accidents.

See my 3:49 post above. You will see that she is holding the binoculars reversed.

Re close focus (and the kid looking at something, mushroom or whatever, close by): MY Junior Using the binoculars as a magnifying glass If you turn the optical device around, you can use it as a practical magnifying glass. That way you can help grandpa read the small print, take a closer look...

8x20 in possession. Which one to add?

The weight difference is noticeable although not a big deal (a bit more noticeable when comparing the Curio to the Trinovid). It is more the shape - the Trinvoid is just more compact. (And I still prefer the Curio to the other 2 :) )

8x20 in possession. Which one to add?

The Ultravid is about 10% heavier than the Trinovid and the Curio is about 10% heavier again than the Ultravid. With straps on all 3 and with caps for the Ultravid and Curio. Size The Ultravid is about 10% heavier than the Trinovid and the Curio is about 10% heavier again than the Ultravid...

8x20 in possession. Which one to add?

That would be too much even for me! :) I use the Trinovid when size is paramount. So if no sufficiently sized pockets and belt not an option, for concerts and theatre, when I have to be reasonably smart. Yes, the Ultravid is better optically and is waterproof but it is noticeably bigger and...

8x20 in possession. Which one to add?

I love small binos because they are, quite literally, always with me. I have 3 as well as two larger (8x30 and 12x42- this forum is a terrible place for my wallet) and they all get used. The Trinovid is the smallest. Although not waterproof, not as bright and a longer close focus, they are...

    Magnesium or Polycarbonate?

I once drove over my Leica 8x20 BC on a gravel surface. Apart from a small dent in the bridge caused by the gravel otherwise undamaged and perfectly usable. Not only that but Leica repaired the dent by replacing the bridge foc although they were told the circumstances. Impressive on two counts!

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

The equivalent, in my GPS analogy, of blindly following the route onto an impassable track.

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

This feels likes the arguments about maps and GPS. They are not mutually exclusive - they both have pluses and minuses but being prepared to use them together can bring great benefits.

Random Ramblings on the CL 7x21 Curio

Currently using my Ultravid 8x20 as the Curios are in Austria. Whilst the Curios are now my go to pocket bino and will remain so, it is good to be using the Ultravids again - they have other qualities.

    Swarovski Curio 7x21 shaky image

I have to say that does not mirror my experience at all. The Curio being the least prone to movement of all my binos thanks to the lower magnification. As the OP says, it does prove the old adage of try before you buy (not always possible of course). I don't think the Curios would have received...

    Habicht with sticky rubber

That would be the first major problem. :) Anyway they have gone off to Swarovski as they are still (well) within their 30 year warranty.

    Habicht with sticky rubber

I wouldn't wholly rule out the ph of sweat in my case (although I sweat very little). But the initial failure points I noticed on the Habicht were not where the hands naturally fall; it could I suppose have crept around over time.

    Habicht with sticky rubber

Not in my case - this is the UK after all. :)

    Habicht with sticky rubber

No idea about detectors. In the UK there are maps of Radon levels available at a fairly high level of detail and I just looked our location up. Fraid I'm not interested in lawsuits. Swarovski will stand by the warranty, probably sort the issue more permanently in the future and, if they don't...

    Habicht with sticky rubber

FWIW, we live in a very low Radon area.

    Habicht with sticky rubber

I think it is probably too early to say regarding the Curio's armour. The discolouration wouldn't ever be noticeable on the black version and it is in any event purely a cosmetic issue (and may be a very isolated case). The looseness has largely vanished and I think it was due to using acetone...

    Habicht with sticky rubber

They have spent some time in cases/bags and at night(!). Interesting theory about the dark but I have yet to be convinced. I have many old USB cables, screwdrivers, a pair of headphones (43 years old) , etc. many of which have spent most of the time in the dark and show none of these symptoms...

    Habicht with sticky rubber

Somewhat to my surprise my 2015 Habicht have succumbed to the same problem over this weekend. The armour is breaking up and getting sticky. So off to Swarovski they are going. Which slightly hacks me off because my Curios are also en route to Swarovski because the armour has become discoloured...
