    I got this picture a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it's a Downy Woodpecker because I get them more but I can't remember the size of the bird from when I took the picture.

    Thank you! will do. I know the size difference is usually a good pointer between Downy and Hairy woodpeckers but this was taken a few weeks ago so I can't remember. I'm guessing it's a Downy since I see them more, but it's nice to be sure. Have a nice day!

    i also learned too late: grasshopper sparrows and florida grasshopper sparrows are not the same when it comes to status. i didn't know the florida subspecies was a seperate species you can't count captive birds like pets at someones house or in a rehabilitation center towards your life list...
