    How's Your 2024 List Going?

My normal spring shorebird spot has been mostly unsuitable this year, so I've missed several I would normally find in the spring. I did get one new species this morning, however. 182. Semipalmated Sandpiper

Vireo Confusion in New Jersey, USA - 5/27/24

Sound alone is enough for this ID. Philidelphia Vireos sing in short bursts like other vireos, nothing like the warbling we hear in this recording.

Petition to AOS Leadership on the Recent Decision to Change all Eponymous Bird Names

I could name some non-white (and white) people who were and are promoting horrific things, but I would make probably everyone on here rather mad. In 200 years society may (and I hope it does) look on some aspects of today's society as abhorrent and evil. Maybe we should just chill out and not...

    Flycatcher ID:Illinois,USA

It's possible, I doubt it can be identified for certain with these photos. And anyway, there's no way to separate Willow and Alder by sight alone.

Petition to AOS Leadership on the Recent Decision to Change all Eponymous Bird Names

I really don't care about your physical actions or emotional state while writing. Writing still has a tone, and communicating with generalizations, insults, and hyperbole does carry the same tone as a rant. You by all means have the right to communicate however you please, but don't expect...

Petition to AOS Leadership on the Recent Decision to Change all Eponymous Bird Names

Text has a tone. It's not hard to discern the tone from something like: "This decision is a bunch of woke nonsense invented by self-righteous white elites." Such language is immediately off-putting and NEVER helps any argument. When one makes a calm, logical argument without superlatives...

    Your silliest/most entertaining/unlikely birding accomplishments

On Sunday I was very fortunate to find a Veery and two Gray-cheeked Thrushes, both of which are uncommon and can be quite hard to find. What was amazing is that I did this without seeing a single Swainson's Thrush, which are quite common.
