When do you need a tripod? Zoom level etc.

I would be very happy with that quality!

Trekking pole with camera mount head - recommendations?

Thanks. That converts a monopod into a walking stick, but I don't think that most monopods have all the required features of a walking pole, such as the metal spike at the bottom and the basket for soft ground. I'm not sure that monopods are built to take the abuse that walking sticks take going...

Trekking pole with camera mount head - recommendations?

Thanks. Slightly fancier one than the one I linked to, but similar. Also out of stock. :(

Trekking pole with camera mount head - recommendations?

I've searched through previous posts but they seem to be 10 or more years old. It seems logical that if you use a trekking pole when out walking that having a camera mount at the top enables you to use it as a monopod. I recall seeing some back in the day, but not more recently. I can find some...

When do you need a tripod? Zoom level etc.

Posting here instead of tripod thread. I've read various threads about cameras and zoom levels and (as usual) I'm a bit confused. I still think in old 35mm terms. My Nikon D40X has a 55-200 mm lens. I understand that on this configuration, 50 mm is approximately 1x so 200 mm is approximately...

    Sensor size and cropping

New to the site and searching through. :) I confess to being confused about cropping, and also sensor size. I think: Full Frame means the sensor is the size of a 35mm film negative. That is, 36 x 24 mm. I was well confused, then realised that back in the day, negative formats were full plate...

Interesting new camera, possibly of interest for birdwatchers

That perfectly sums up the problem that I am trying to solve.

Binoculars with built in digital camera?

Interesting but the reviews suggest that it is more a camera than a monocular. Not a very good camera at that. Disappointing because the basic idea seems to be what I am looking for.

Interesting new camera, possibly of interest for birdwatchers

Interesting. Not a straight swap for a decent quality monocular, then, if you want to mainly look at stuff and a few times take a photo.

Binoculars with built in digital camera?

Thanks for all the ideas. I've been chasing ideas around but not come up with anything under £1,000 so far. :(

    Swarovski dG

OK. I've arrived here because I was looking for something with this kind of functionality. I haven't read all six pages of the thread yet, but have noted some mildly Luddite tendencies (if I can use that term) in some comments. So first, digital. I think these days many, if not most, birders...

Binoculars with built in digital camera?

First let me say that I have both a 35mm digital camera and a compact camera which both suit different needs. I also have a reasonable camera on my phone. However I have sometimes hit a use case where these are too slow and/or cumbersome to get the photo that I want. First time recently was...

Walker in the countryside who also looks at birds

Ta. Forgot to mention my venerable Nikon DX40 with 55-200 lens. Also Canon Ixsus 285HS.

Walker in the countryside who also looks at birds

Hi. I am not a dedicated bird watcher with loads of knowledge, but I do like watching the birds which are around when I go walking in the countryside. I also look at loads of other stuff, of course. I have Celestron Trailseeker 10 x 42 binoculars and a Celestron 20-60 x 80 spotting scope...
