Poll - Trying to get some numbers on Swarovski rubber armour issues.

Swarovski's own reply to another user, who posted in another thread here. It's not the chemicals, but environmental factors (temperature, UV, heat) that the material cannot withstand.

Poll - Trying to get some numbers on Swarovski rubber armour issues.

Swarovski have said that it's their environmentally friendly new armour material that's at fault, and are working on a new material.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Still no update from Swarovski about the supposed new material.

    12x50 Rubber Coating Breaking Up

Heard from our local distributor that a new armour material is coming in March 2024.

    EL SV/FP with glasses

Try asking Swarovski for a set of NL eyecups and rain covers. It fits onto EL and you get more steps in between. I have the same experience as you with eyecup settings.

    My Swarovski EL 8.5x42 Review

This is how my EL FieldPro (pre-downgrade) arrived in Aug 2020. Binos packed in the padded field bag.

    EL 10x42 casing deterioration.

Not so feasible for me when it costs US$160 each time, and this is the best option that Swarovski and its local distributor can offer. Meanwhile, the Leica boutique store will take care of all necessary shipping costs, and will make me a coffee while they're at it.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

That's exactly what they are doing now. See below replies from their customer service in response to my questions about the subpar material continuing to be used in repairs, which will likely recur in the same time frame in future. "Make no sense" indeed! "Due to the used sustainable material...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

It's been discussed before that the problematic armour is from ~2015 onwards when they changed to a more eco friendly material. Your 15 year old armour should be more robust. Hopefully they have used the same material for your older bins, instead of switching you for this lousy eco material

Yup, checked out some alternatives. ;)

    EL 10x42 casing deterioration.

Not really "perfectly usable" In my ongoing experience, each outing involves the armour flaking off in pieces (resulting in environmental pollution if the errant piece is not noticed), and sticky fingers and palms from the armour surface leaving some sticky residue.

    EL 10x42 casing deterioration.

US$160 for my location back to Austria, via my local distributor. Not as minor unfortunately :(

    EL 10x42 casing deterioration.

The current armour is still problematic. According to a rep at a recent fair, they are testing some new materials now to address this issue, don't think it's on the market yet

Poll - Trying to get some numbers on Swarovski rubber armour issues.

Yes but no such problems with other binoculars' armour or camera grips. The problem is not DEET or sunblock or other chemicals - Swarovski have said so themselves

You might want to check with them to confirm. I don't think its only for the original owner, their website states: "for products without electronics produced after 2007 (e. g. NL Pure), SWAROVSKI OPTIK covers the costs for labor and material for 10 years (5 years manufacturer's warranty, 5...
