    I saw this guy at Sandy Point MD on the 5th. He was by himself, a group of buffleheads were there but ignoring him. He is a diver, so I am guessing by head shape, coloring, and area that he is a lesser scaup. What do you think?

    January 1 day trip

    I'm in B'more MD and want to take a day trip on Jan 1 to bird. Within 3 or so hours of B'more in any direction. What is your recommendation, and what could I see? I have thought of Long Island (4 hrs) or Erie PA (5 hrs). I'm not sure what to look for when choosing a place. Thanks!
