    UK Bird of Prey help

Hi Daz. Yes, the bird you've provided photos of is a Peregrine. I don't think you can rule out that you saw Peregrines today just on location. I recently went to a well known Merlin spot (quiet country lane surrounded by arable and livestock fields) only to find a Peregrine perched on the ground...

Comment by 'PW23' in media 'Common Swift'

Hello. Of course, happy to share. You should be able to see the settings I used in the metadata. I looked through the Canon R5's EVF and used animal eye AF to lock focus onto the Swift. I believe I was using electronic shutter mode to get the highest frame rate.I was using a 100-500mm lens but...

Which bird of prey is this - Mid Devon - England

Hi Dylanswall, glad to hear you let this beauty get away with (hopefully) no hard feelings. It looks like a juvenile Goshawk from the streaking and general behaviour. They are known to show interest in chickens.

    Black Tern? N Poland

Looks good for Black. White-winged would have different markings on the wing (white on the top, black on the underside joining the black body).

    Harassed Sea Eagle

Fair Butty, mistook Gerald's flag for his location. Buteo - CB or RLB

    Harassed Sea Eagle

Common buzzard due to size, shape and plumage. Great shots!

Sparrowhawk or E. Goshawk, Falsterbo Sweden

Agree with you both, female Sparrowhawk. Nice shot!

    Hello from St Albans, England

Hello Chipperoo, You've actually got a pretty decent local birding area on your doorstep, though binoculars will help to unlock its secrets. St Albans Cathedral is home to a pair of Peregrine Falcons who successfully fledged a chick last year. There is a live webcam on the nest available on the...

    Krabi Thailand 05,02,23 Raptors

Agree with Joern. Tail looks fine for OHB - general shape and head are perfect.

    Warsaw, Poland, 09.10

One more for juvenile Gos. The hips only look narrow to me when the bird is at an angle and seem fine when overhead. Head size/ shape is perfect.

Raptor June 16th Central Herts 2022

Agree with Red Kite and Jackdaw - both were my first impression without reading comments. Wings good for Red Kite per Tom's analysis, dark mask and pale eye visible for the Jackdaw. Odd bill is likely overexposure. Could also be the bird's head is turned slightly away from the camera and it has...

    Northern goshawk confirmation (Romania)

Your photos are excellent and show adult (1) and juvenile (2) Goshawks per Welsh Peregrine's message above. The photos are good enough to show plumage details which makes the identification straightforward (fine barring on the adult with broken and faint barring on the secondaries, brown blobs...

    Portugal Algarve Lagos

Agree Daniel. I'd expect a Black crowned night heron's cap to reach the eye. Both birds in the first image are Cattle egrets aren't they?

Yellow-billed Kite Q E Nat. Park Uganda July

Hi Chris. First 3 pics yes. Latter 3 are a juvenile Bateleur - note the short tail, blue bill and almost wooly-looking texture on head feathers.

Eagle sp. v2, Etosha NP, Namibia

I'd also say Tawny. Gape looks short for Steppe and I don't think it's closely resembles any of the other eagles in range.

Tsavo East (Voi Safari Lodge) 09/08/2022

Hi Bear, great picture and video. This is a Red-winged starling, looks like a male due to its dark, uniform head. Females have a grey head. Confusion species is Pale-winged starling but they have a bright orange eye. **crossed with Tom ***Pale-winged is out of range for Kenya anyway as their...

Just an image to id with

A Seattle-based American football team are probably the main distributor of the "seahawk" idea. Ospreys are widely viewed as the bird that most closely resembles the concept of a seahawk. But they bear little resemblance to your fictional eagle/gull "eagull" creature.

    Epping Forest a “distant” BOP.

I'd go identifiable and sprawk with high confidence myself. It's an accipiter showing good sprawk features as mentioned and lacking gos features. I'd add that the rounded, smallish head across two photos (noting it could be the angle) is pro-sprawk too. I think the broad-winged perception of...

Need an ID for this bird found in the Southern Pantanal of Brazil

Hi Dave. Plumage looks good for a Rusty-backed Antwren. I think Sincora can be excluded on range.

Falcon... Hobby? Eleonora? Other? Turkey, September

Head markings and shape in flight would make me think Red-footed falcon. I think you can rule out Hobby. Markings not right for Eleanora's IMO.

    Falcon, East Sussex (Video)

Agree with the above, still a hobby for me.

    Falcon, East Sussex (Video)

Have you been to Rye Harbour? I'd highly recommend it this time of year to see the hobbies hawking over the Saltmarsh. There isn't much to learn from the shadowed areas, but when the flanks become well lit in the period I've identified for you, the barring and colouration is there to see...

    Falcon, East Sussex (Video)

Tail feathers aside, the rump of your bird is a lighter shade of grey than the back and wings. I don't think the bird in my link has a great likeness to the one in the video but again, it was a quick google to find a topside flight shot and it does objectively have a paler rump and this time...
