    Replacement for M7 8x30

I am using Conquest 8x32 now for heavy use, lady in the house uses new Nikon M7 8x30. You can get Conquest bit cheaper from Germany etc. Mine was like 700€. I don't see much difference in pic quality, durabily of Conquest is of course great. M7 is lighter, so it's more suitable for occasitional...

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

Here in Finland every serious birder has finnstick and if you come to see raptors without it, you might get laughed off... I made mine of broomstick and I have teached same method to some less experianced fellow birders and to an exchange student from Austria and they all said that it's...

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

Thanks for the suggestions! Here is summary so far.. Wide field is important Low chromatic aberration is needed Ease of view is important Typical good quality 8x42 (or 8x32) might do the trick said several posters, some of who have participated in surveys Many people involved in surveys use...

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

I haven't seen anyone here using IS bins in raptor watch - main reason for that might be that here are not that many raptors and when we see some, they are typically several kilometers away, so scope is usually needed and even that is often not enough. So, watching sky 8 hours with IS bins...

    Diopter malfunction

Yes, there are lots of versions under different name. Viking ED pro was initially sold for 800€, then the price went down. I bought it 3 years ago for 300€. I check it out.

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

I am giving thought to 50mm bins. My Viking pro 10x42 bins has diopter malfunction (posted in another thread).

Interesting suggestion. My friend has those bins.

    Thats useful information, thanks! (y)

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

I am not sure if I am hired or what kind surveys will be, but I guess that it's surveys in planned windmill areas "middle of nowhere".

Raptor survey as a work, what kind of bins?

What kind of bins would be good for staring the sky for 8 hours straight trying to find and identify (few) raptors, find their fly altitude and direction etc. with the help of finnstick? Lots of staring of empty sky and only few birds, because survey is propably not made in "good" birding...

    Diopter malfunction

My Viking ED Pro bins have central diopter. I have moved it extreme left on the minus side, but I still can't get sharp picture at same time for both eyes - there is not enough room for adjustment. Before it worked ok, but I think that something has gone wrong with the diopter. It's annoying...

Looking for an 8x32 in the $300 range

I gave Opticron Discovery to GF few years back. It's cheap and maybe the lightest possible option. On the other hand, it feels bit like toy. The ocular part unglued itself in GF's light use, but I just put it back. Now it don't work properly, maybe it's out of collimation. :( Some others have...

Help me find a decent 8x32 for a low price

That's a good video, it gives idea of bino differences in your price range. Diamondbacks in that video might not be the ED version(?), so the new one is better. Monarch M7 has new more stylish version.

Help me find a decent 8x32 for a low price

I bought Nikon Monarch M7 8x30 for the GF for 380€ and they are great - nice picture, small size, light weight, smooth focus, comfy strap and good design. (y) :D

Looking for an 8x32 in the $300 range

It's hard to have everything with 300$ to use, Prostaffs are not far from that level. I think you should try Nikon Monarch M7 8x30, around 380$. It has better picture and wider FOV. Hard to find anything cheaper and better. If that's not good enough, you need more money to invest.

Meopta Meopro HD 8x32 or new Nikon Monarch M7 8x30

I am looking for light 300-400€ bin, mainly for GF and partly for me to use on walks etc. For more hardcore birding I use my Viking ED Pro 10x bin. We had older model Monarch 7 8x30 and it was quite satisfactory for both of us, so easy answer is to buy new Monarch. Meopro is on the sale for 350€...

Bresser Pirsch ED 8x34 short review

I had Nikon M7 8x30 and I was satisfied with it. Bought it for 300€, but now prices has gone bit up.

Bresser Pirsch ED 8x34 short review

I had to return the Bresser Pirsch ED 8x34, because the (too tight) diopter wheel got unglued after a brief use. We were not totally happy with the bin overall, so I can't recommed it wholeheartedly in the 300€ segment.

Binocular for tripod during daytime viewing..

I got walkstool as christmas present, just waiting for the better weather to test it... :) But I don't really get your way of thinking... If you are walking the dog at the daytime, you need something light, portable and fast to use, like 8x30 bins. Here in Finland I haven't seen no...

Buying advice for a newbie on a budget.

We have Olympus DPSI and pic quality is as good as it gets in 100£ category. Only problems might be 1) insufficient eye relief, if you use glasses and 2) maybe water proofing is not sufficient for heavy rain.

Bresser Pirsch ED 8x34 short review

I decided to buy Bresser Pirsch ED 8x34 mainly for the GF (and partly for me). Price is around 300€, so it's in the segment with most competition. Long eye relief and low weight were important features. I have used it for few dark days without sunlight. + Pic quality is good, nothing to...

    Spotting scope alternatives

It's good alternative, if you have time to take a pic from a bird. You can ID bird as well as with scope from the photo. On the other hand, camera is not good for scanning the surroundings and flying birds might be difficult. I have Nikon p900 with 90X zoom, which same as 40X scope...

Meopta Meostar S2 30-60W first impressions

I have 30-60 eyepiece. I find that 30x is quite easy for me to use. :) With 60x eye placement is very critical and blackouts are hard to avoid, so the 60x has limited value especially with targets like flying birds. :(

Digiscoping with Meopta Meostar S2 82 HD

    1. I have Meopta 30x60 scope. I have tried occasionally digiscoping with it, but without adapter. It haven't turned out well. Fault could be in me or my cheap phone. 2. I f you want good long distance photos, you should just buy Nikon P1000 or Nikon p950 camera. I have Nikon p900 and it's much...

How many ditched their spotter for higher powered bino’s?

I just remember that they were huge, 20x or something like that, too big to handheld. Those might work for stationary objects (with tripod) to get an easy and beautiful view, but for flying birds you might end up in unconfortable positions.
