    Desktop died

You're very fortunate to still have a functioning hard drive after 10 years, that's all I'm getting at. Most mechanical drives fail before that and the cost of retrieving data, which may or may not be possible in its entirety, is a costly procedure that can be avoided by backing up on to a...

    Hello and welcome.

    Desktop died

Personally I wouldn't bother. By the sound of how you're referring to it, I am guessing the hard drive itself is fine but something else in the computer broke. If that's the case then I'd recommend buying a low-end Dell pre-built PC. I don't know if you have any tech-savvy family members...

Birds to photograph in the coming year?

I live outside Peterborough in a village. I'm quite close to Holme Fen which has quite a few birds of prey regularly hunting, but beyond that I am looking for some recommendations. I just changed jobs to give me more time to focus on photography as a career so it will give me more time from...

Best Entry Level DSLR and Lens under £800

I am not entirely sure of the rules of advertising and I'd rather clarify before offering anything, but I have a Canon 750D with a couple thousand shots on it that's about 6 months old I am parting with. As others have recommended, the 150-600mm lenses by Sigma and Tamron are excellent...

Best place to buy a Canon Lens

Depends what you want. If you want the risk of a grey import then by all means pay less. If you want a kosher lens from the UK then you will be paying within £30-50 difference between most reputable vendors, in which case I'd say just get it from Amazon because they don't give two hoots and...

Thoughts on Canon Rebel t3i-t6i series

I also use the 750D(T6i) and love it. You can get the 55-250mm lens for about $150 which will give you a bit of extra reach, but ultimately you'll probably get a taste for it and want a longer lens, which is the position I find myself in now in looking at a $1500 lens.

    printscreen not working

You shouldn't have to press anything in addition to the Print Screen key itself. If it's working on your desktop but not in Firefox then it's likely something to do with Firefox. Perhaps see if it is due for an update.

    jpeg user to raw

Howdy, Photoshop and Lightroom are an excellent combination to have access to. I currently pay monthly to use it(as well as get storage and various other software to use) and it's £10/$15/month. RAW is definitely the way to go if you want the most out of your images and it certainly helps...

    which camera should i get

Haha yes the 150-600 is one I have my eye on as well. Thankfully I work at a hospital with physiotherapists or, worst case, orthopaedic surgeons to hand. I have a feeling I may need them after trying it out the other day! :D

no sound on my hp g6 laptop

At the bottom right of your desktop on the task bar you have little icons, one of them should be a speaker which is for sound. Is that in any way indicating that it may be muted or off? Typically it will have various curved lines coming off it to indicate volume level, but you can also click it...

    Body upgrade advise

If lighting is an issue then check which bodies operate best at higher ISO. My guess would be the 5D3, however you may still prefer a cropped sensor for the extra magnification you don't get with full frame. Difficult choice, not sure what to recommend 100%.

    Canon 1.4X Extender

Check out the Kenko tubes. I have them but haven't used them much(bought them second hand for £50 for a set, couldn't say no). They're about £130 for the set of 3 I believe but they work with Canon AF.

    Focus light!

Heya, I am new to macro as well and it certainly presents its own challenges. Lighting is very, very important for macro. Are you using a DSLR? If so I'd recommend a speedlite flash. You can get them relatively inexpensively on Amazon. I had to use a flash on all of these because the...

    Hello from England

Hello all, I took up photography recently and found myself quickly interested in photographing birds. My technique still needs a lot of work and I definitely need a longer lens(coming later this year), but I am really enjoying it so far. Fortunately I live near quite a large reserve where...
